German Chancellor candidate from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) Friedrich Merz has stated that his foreign policy goal is to achieve the country’s independence from the United States of America.
As reported by ntv , the politician said on air at “Berliner Runde” that he never imagined that he would ever say something like that on a television program, but it became a reality after the latest statements by the new American President Donald Trump. Merz came to the conclusion that this part of Americans is “largely” indifferent to the fate of Europe:
“My absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that step by step we can truly achieve independence from the United States.”
The politician added that he is very interested in what the NATO summit in June will be like and whether the North Atlantic Alliance in its current form will be discussed. “Europe must create an independent defense capability much faster. This is my absolute priority,” he emphasized.

That’s a good start for Merz. His first major announcement, and it’s aimed at the orange man child.
