According to the German Chancellor, a ceasefire should be a condition for negotiations.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that a ceasefire in Ukraine should be a condition for negotiations between the two sides, Spiegel reports .

The publication published the German leader’s reaction to the idea of the Russian dictator, who rejected the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire put forward by Ukraine and its allies, but wanted direct negotiations in Istanbul on May 15.
“First the guns must fall silent, and then negotiations can begin. We expect Moscow to now agree to a ceasefire that will make real negotiations possible,” Merz said.
He stressed that Ukraine agreed to such actions “without any conditions.” According to the Chancellor, if the Russian side is now signaling readiness for negotiations, it is a “good sign,” but “this is far from enough.”

Istanbul was just a charade: putler’s surrender conditions were the same absurd nonsense that they are today.
Besides, as F1 here pointed out : the Ukrainian negotiators learned about the horror of Bucha at that time and realised then as now that you can’t negotiate with nazi savages.
There can be no Istanbul 2.
Only crushing sanctions, huge military aid, western air power in the free areas of Ukraine and western boots on the ground. Combat troops not “peacekeepers.”
It’s baffling to see everyone still blather about negotiations, even after seeing mafia land breaking everything that they agree to. Doing those things you’ve mentioned is the only right strategy to get peace.
