Every patriot of our country knows when Volodymyr’s Day is, because the celebration is celebrated on the same date as another important event for our history. In the middle of the month, July 15 , Ukrainians celebrate the Day of the Baptism of Rus. Both celebrations changed their date of celebration in 2023, after the OCU introduced a new calendar. Before that, both Volodymyr’s Day according to the church calendar and the Day of the Baptism of Rus were celebrated on July 28 .

What not to do on St. Volodymyr’s Day – signs and prohibitions

Orthodox Christians should remember – when Volodymyr’s Day is in Ukraine, it is necessary to honor the memory of the great prince, who was canonized. In no case should one sin, otherwise one may incur the displeasure of higher powers. For a long time, peasants knew that on this date it is strictly forbidden to harvest bread. If one does not obey, there will be no harvest. In general, it is better not to go to the fields on July 15 – according to legend, one may encounter a ghost that will curse an ignorant wanderer.

There are several ancient signs on the day of the angel Volodymyr:

• the leaves on the linden are yellow – autumn will come early;
• it has rained, but there is no rainbow – the weather will be cloudless;
• thunder rumbles loudly – to rain;
• it is raining in the morning – the coming days will not bring precipitation;
• on the evening of July 15, fog is spreading – expect prolonged rains;
• Hearing the chirping of grasshoppers – to the scorching heat.

The day of memory of the Equal-to-the-Apostles saint has the same prohibitions as other Orthodox holidays. You cannot swear, quarrel, wish anyone harm, envy and gossip, work hard, arrange a general cleaning. It is advisable to find time for prayer and good deeds – give alms or help those in need. Folk traditions recommend spending July 15 in peace and tranquility.
