Against the backdrop of the scandal, an independent MP organised an “excursion” to Hatvanpupusti, which attracted thousands of people.

A political scandal has erupted in Hungary over a luxury complex that may be linked to Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Independent MP Akos Hadházy has published photographs of an unfinished complex in Hatvanpuszta, which he says belongs to the family of Prime Minister Orbán. The pictures show a palm garden, a private zoo, underground corridors and other elements of a luxurious residence.

Hadházy said the photo was taken by a former worker who quit because of “disgust” at what he saw. According to him, the construction site is guarded, the workers’ phones are taken away and they are threatened. He commented ironically on Orbán’s official explanation, calling the version about the prime minister’s father’s farm “very strange”.

“Well, if this is a farm, then that’s very strange,” Hadhazy wrote.

The deputy also organized an “excursion” to Hatvanpupu, which attracted thousands of people. Participants compared the atmosphere to the events after Viktor Yanukovych fled Ukraine. Journalists recorded that even increased security measures did not prevent people from seeing exotic animals – zebras, antelopes and buffalos.

The builders, according to the investigation, demolished some of the historical monuments to build the new residence. Despite the government’s official statements about a “family farm”, documents obtained by Hadhazy show that an energy certificate was being issued for a residential building.

The leader of the opposition Tisza party, Peter Magyar, has already promised that if he wins the election, he will initiate a large-scale investigation into the assets of officials and their relatives, including the complex in Hatvanpuszta. According to him, the investigation will cover all former and current government officials over the past 20 years.
