Alexander Lukashenko suggested that Russia and Ukraine sit down at the negotiating table and stop the war, because it is not needed by “the Ukrainian people, nor the Russians, nor the Belarusians.” He said this in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel, as quoted by the state-run Belarusian agency Belta.
In his opinion, this war is needed only by “high-ranking people of American origin.”
“Let’s sit down at the negotiating table and end this brawl. Neither the Ukrainian people, nor the Russians, nor the Belarusians need it. They need it. He also said that he was not ready to use Russian nuclear weapons deployed on Belarusian territory until the country’s border was violated.
“When tactical nuclear weapons appeared here, I told them [Western politicians]: ‘We are not going to use any weapons until you step on our state border. It is also the border of our Union State,'” Interfax quotes him as saying.
Lukashenko added that, according to the current agreements, in the event of aggression against Belarus, Russia will introduce its troops into the country to provide military support. According to him, the Belarusian army “takes the first blow, and then Russia will back us up in reserve.”
Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian troops’ invasion of the Kursk region, Lukashenko ordered the reinforcement of troop groups in the Gomel and Mozyr directions “in order to respond to any possible provocations.” According to Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, Polonez rocket systems and Iskander complexes will be deployed to the border with Ukraine.
