The large number of Russian servicemen captured during the fighting in Kursk region has forced the Kremlin to take an unprecedented step: for the first time the Russian Federation has initiated a conversation with Ukraine about the exchange of prisoners.
This information was voiced by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets during a TV marathon, Dialog.UA reported.
He reported about the conversation with the ombudsman of the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova, which was initiated by the Russian side.
“The exchange of information is taking place now,” Lubinets said and added that Kyiv is simultaneously informing international organisations about protecting the rights of Russian prisoners of war.
Ukraine is ready to continue the exchange processes in accordance with the Geneva Convention.
In addition, the ombudsman spoke about Ukraine’s readiness to open humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the combat zone in Kursk Region.
The Ukrainian military provides humanitarian aid to local residents by supplying them with food, water and medicines.
This information was also confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has opened a 24-hour hotline for residents of Kursk Region who need humanitarian aid and want to evacuate to the territory of Ukraine.
