JD Vance Just Told Us the Real Plan: Let Putin Win
On his flight back from Rome, VP Vance gave journalists a desk read of a script that’s been in development about the Trump administration’s claims to be working to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. The script is dressed up in the language of diplomacy, realism, and restraint. It talks about “impasses,” “mistrust,” and the need to “move on.” It pretends to search for peace.
But the script is lousy and there’s not a word of truth in it.
The push for peace talks isn’t about ending the war. It’s about ending Ukraine’s resistance. It’s all about creating the illusion that diplomacy is being pursued so that the United States can justify walking away. That way Putin can be handed a victory without anyone having to say the word surrender.
Here is the Vance explaining the Trump administration’s position on Ukraine:
“The talks have been proceeding for a little while. We realize there’s a bit of an impasse here…”
Translation: Russia is still killing civilians. Ukraine is still refusing to surrender. So let’s call it an impasse.
“…and I think the President [Trump] is going to say to President Putin, ‘Look, are you serious? Are you real about this?’”
This isn’t diplomacy. It’s not even negotiation. It’s theater. It’s a line in a play designed to give the appearance of concern while preparing to fold.
“Honestly, I think that President Putin doesn’t quite know how to get out of the war.”
Here we go. This is pure fiction. It’s a narrative designed to make Putin look trapped rather than guilty. Vance is trying to humanize a war criminal, as if Putin is just a confused man in a difficult spot. That’s baloney, and Vance knows it. Putin is not lost. He is executing a brutal plan. And Vance is feeding this nonsense to a public he hopes won’t know better.
“This is a little bit of a guess, but I think the President would agree that part of this is I’m not sure that Vladimir Putin has a strategy himself for how to unwind the war…”
So now we’re guessing? About a regime that has published its goals and pursued them for years? Putin has a strategy. It’s conquest, repression, and annihilation of Ukraine. He’s outright said so. He’s acted on it.
“There’s fundamental mistrust between Russia and the West…”
Ummm, yes. As there should be. Russia invaded its neighbors. It funds extremist movements. It poisons journalists. It abducts children. It bombs power plants and maternity wards. That’s not a trust issue. That’s a criminal record.
“It’s one of the things the President thinks is frankly stupid, and we should be able to move beyond the mistakes that have been made in the past…”
So in Vance’s worldview, the mistake wasn’t Russia’s invasion. The mistake was the West standing up to it. Defending Ukraine, punishing war crimes, and resisting genocide is framed by the Trump administration as an error.
“But that takes two to tango. I know the President’s willing to do that, but if Russia’s not willing to do that, then we’re eventually just going to have to say, ‘This is not our war.’”
There it is. The real objective. Create the appearance of effort. Blame the victim. Then walk away.
Vance’s words are not about peace. They’re simply political cover. They‘re designed to hide the truth: that the Trump administration has no intention of actually ending the war. They are setting the stage to let Putin finish what he started.
And now, the Vice President of the United States wants to walk away and call it even.
But this war isn’t over.
Ukraine is still fighting, for its land, its people, and its right to exist. And the United States still has a choice: to stand with those fighting for freedom, or to cave to a dictator because it’s politically convenient.
This is not diplomacy. It is betrayal disguised as reason. It is capitulation dressed up as pragmatism. It is the calculated decision to abandon a people resisting genocide, while pretending we tried.
Vance’s message certainly pleases Putin. It may resonate with a segment of the American far right that is eager to retreat from the world. But make no mistake, this kind of retreat does not buy peace. It buys time for tyranny to grow.
We’ve seen what happens when democracies flinch. We’ve seen the cost of ignoring aggression until it is too late.
“This is not our war,” Vance says.
Yes, it is. It is the war of anyone who believes borders cannot be erased by force. That children should not be deported. That civilians should not be bombed in their beds. That history cannot be rewritten by tyrants with tanks.
This is the front line of the 21st century. And if America abandons it, we won’t be watching peace unfold. We’ll be watching the world unravel..

So Putler managed to trick the shirt out of Drumpo again. Yes, there will be some kind of talk between Ukraine and Russia, Putin repeats his impossible maximalist demands, after which everyone leaves. There will be no peace. The Kreml’s summary of the conversation already differs significantly from what Drumpo writes and they reject ceasefire without concessions from Ukraine. And we know what concessions they require.

Brilliant, punchy essay by RKSL.
Hard to dispute even one word.
To re-quote Jonathan Fink’s description of VanZkov:
“Utterly vile.”
Too kind Jonathan.
