It’s déjà vu all over again with Trump

The same questions are being asked in Ukraine 8 years later as Donald Trump regains the presidency.

Here is Kyiv Post chief editor Brian Bonner’s summary of the Jan. 13, 2017, edition, which can be read here in PDF format:

Kyiv Post. Issue #1-#2. Year #22

The Kyiv Post is starting its 22nd year with Ukraine deeply troubled for three reasons:

— How the nation will fare under a Donald Trump presidency;

— Why some are calling on leaders to trade Crimea/Donbas for peace with Russia;

— A relationship with the European Union that appears shakier.

We also update Ukraine’s progress in increasing renewable energy sources.

We have a complete Lifestyle guide.

Also, there’s still time if you haven’t contributed to the Kyiv Post fund for a Ukrainian staff journalist to work at an American newspaper for six months.

Thanks to everyone. We look forward to serving readers & advertisers this year in Ukraine and abroad.

Flashback to Sept 24, 2024 :

“Ukraine is dead, gone!” – Donald Trump calls time on Ukraine and aims to do the same on U.S. assistance.

The Republican nominee’s hatred for Ukraine should make anyone interested in the survival of the nation take notice and take action.

Trump says Ukraine is ‘dead’ and dismisses its defense against Russia’s invasion

BY MICHAEL ANDERSEN

Can it get any worse for Ukraine? You wouldn’t have thought so, but on second thought, yes, it can. The 5th of November is looming over Ukraine’s future.

Touring incessantly through several of the swing states up to the presidential elections, this week Donald Trump has ramped up his attacks: Firstly on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for supporting Ukraine against Russia, of course. But as the week has gone on, Trump has increasingly gone after Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky personally.

(“Ukraine is gone”, Donald Trump said on Sept. 25, 2024, source: Viory)

I have been watching the many videos from the many rallies and have been reading and amalgamating the enormous amounts of venomous Ukraine rhetoric spewed by the former president just this week. Trump has put forward four claims on Ukraine – in a manner that even for him has been unusually bombastic:

1)   Ukraine is dead, demolished, gone.

2)   Zelensky should have made a deal with Vladimir Putin and handed over parts of Ukraine to the Kremlin.

3) Instead, the U.S. is wasting taxpayers’ money on an unwinnable war because Russia never loses a war, says Trump, reciting Soviet history. He claims that the U.S. has given Ukraine $300 billion in assistance. (He is wrong by a factor of 4; as we proved yesterday, the real figure is $75 billion, although the U.S. has approved $175 billion.)

4)   Oh, and to rub salt in the wound, Trump repeatedly states that “millions and millions have died,” and that Ukraine is lying about the death toll.

With Trump as with many other demagogues, it is not just what he says but as much the manner in which he says it. And Trump’s repeated “Ukraine is dead and demolished” was delivered with venom, as he travelled through the swing states. I’ve studied politics for 40+ years, and I only ever remember a U.S. president directing such attacks at The Evil Empire, the Taliban, Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and Iran – all sworn enemies of the U.S. But Ukraine and Zelensky are close allies. At least for now. It increasingly looks like that a Trump victory on Nov. 5 might change that.

“The country is absolutely obliterated.”

“Ukraine is gone… Ukraine is not Ukraine anymore.”

“Millions and millions of people are dead.”

“Those gorgeous golden towers are demolished.”

Those brazen – and untrue – statements are shocking enough, coming from a man who could be the U.S. president in four months. But what was new this week was the added direct and personal attacks on Zelensky, who, according to Trump, “is making little, nasty aspersions toward your favorite president (me),” “he (Zelensky) entered the war through a lot of bad and stupid statements, and he is no angel.” “And we continue to give billions of dollars to a man who refuses to make a deal.” Always ending with the false assertion that Zelensky and Ukraine are siphoning off money of the U.S. – “every time he comes to the U.S, he leaves with $100 billion”.

Zelensky, Harris and Biden are fighting a useless war, Trump has concluded:

“More people will die, more cities will fall, and the ones that feel will continue to receive more and more bombs, they will be broken up, asunder, worse than they are right now… there is really nothing there for the Ukrainian people to move back to.”

“Any deal that could have been made would have been better than what they have now,” Trump asserted last night, “they would have given up a little bit [of land] …. if not for the incompetence of Biden, Harris, and Zelensky.”

Listening to Trump’s words, I am increasingly reminded of the time back in March when Trump ally, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, explained what Trump’s so-called peace plan consists of: “Trump will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end … it is obvious that Ukraine cannot stand on its own feet, and the war will be over,” Orban explained.

Finally, at every meeting with his followers, Trump ends with bringing the aim back to Biden and Harris, with a bit of old-fashioned scaremongering thrown in for good measure: “They are not going to be satisfied until they send American kids over to Ukraine and that’s what they are trying to do. But American moms and dads do not want their kids to fight Ukraine and Russia, and we are not going to have our kids dying across the ocean.”

And no one, including Ukraine, is asking for American soldiers.

To save Ukraine, all of its supporters will have to rally with all their might and vote like never before to stop Trump from retaking the White House.

Candace Owens is okay with Ukraine losing war with Russia because she claims Zelensky is a ‘homosexual actor’

She also decried “media brainwash” and said it would be spiritually wrong to support a Ukrainian victory over Russia.

Conservative pundit Candace Owens falsely claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is a “homosexual actor” in a post to social media, adding it would be spiritually wrong for her to support a victory by Ukraine over Russia in a post to social media.

Russia annexed parts of Ukraine in 2014, then invaded Ukraine in 2022.

“No amount of media brainwash [sic] in the world could ever make me hope that Zelensky triumphs over an orthodox Russia,” Owens posted to social media on Dec. 3. “Spiritually, I just know that’s wrong. You simply do not support a homosexual actor that is locking up churches and bishops.”

Zelensky is married to Olena Zelenska, has fathered a child, and has never identified as LGBTQ+, as was noted by one commenter.

“Zelensky is married with kids and clearly loves his family. Putin on the other hand has a man crush on Steven Seagal and we don’t even know his ‘family,’” one viewer posted. “Is Candace on the Kremlin payroll or is she just posting hate for clicks?”

Owens has a history of racist, transphobic, and homophobic rhetoric.

In 2023, she reportedly made inflammatory comments directed at Native Americans and Two-Spirit identities at a public event, journalist Victoria Brownworth reported in a post to social media at the time.

In January, she declared a link between “big Pharma” and “its clinical promotion of insanity” among school children and called the LGBTQ+ community a “sexual plague” following a school shooting in Perry, Iowa.

“Gender dysphoria is a mental disorder and the entire LGBTQ movement brought with it a sexual plague on our society,” Owens posted to social media.

In March, Owens aired a story titled “Is France’s First Lady a man?” referring to an article suggesting that Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, secretly identifies as transgender and that Brigitte and her brother, Jean-Michel Trogneux, are the same person.

“Stop everything and watch this!” Owens postedto social media. “Not a joke or an exaggeration to say that barring political assassinations, this is likely the biggest scandal that has ever happened in politics in human history.”

In September, Owens declared that TikTok was “socially engineering” men to be gay and turning women against men as part of a broader conspiracy by Hollywood, the media, and psychoanalysts to manipulate Americans to engage in what she calls “unnatural” behaviors.

“They’re not socially engineering us to do good things,” Owens said on her podcast, Candace, in September. “They are making men more and more effeminate, encouraging effeminate behavior, and convincing women to hate men. This is just what I see happening, and it’s terrifying.”

Ukraine has a mixed record on LGBTQ+ rights. While same-sex sexual relations are legal and employment discrimination based on sexual and gender identity is banned in the country, there are no housing protections or recognition of nonbinary or transgender identities. Russia is currently cracking down on its LGBTQ+ citizens with gay bars being raided by police in recent months.

  1. Like ruZZians, tovarisch OwenZova is obsessed with queers, Jews, conspiracy theories and hates Ukrainians, Ukraine and Zel.
Fellow Trumper Ted Nugent has made the same claims about Zel.
Are there any Ukrainian oligarchs out there that still support Ukraine? Surely one of them should be funding a law case : Owens and Nugent should be sued for hundreds of $millions for making wounding, false allegations and working in the interests of a nazi genocide power.
Or is it ok to state publicly that Ukraine should be subjugated by nazi ruZZia because its president is a homosexual who locks up Bishops?

  2. We have an insane criminal as the next POTUS. It won’t take long for most of his voters to hate November 5, 2024.

    • When I showed the above compendium of related material to my (British) wife, she wept at the evilness the statements being made.

      • Any sane and compassionate human being should be crying when seeing the spread of evilness on this planet, even in the US and Europe.

        • This misleading and TDS laden 4 month old article once again shows there is nothing to fear, yet, but misleading Ukrainians and lying to them is also evil. If they want any credibility when they’re throwing their daggers, if they want to be seen as some semblance of a journalist, they should at least present both sides. Too bad the Leftists aren’t capable of doing that.
Ukrainians are NOT afraid of Trump, they are afraid Americans will start listening to Kremlin propaganda. Dividing Americans will do just that. Unfortunately, there are a few people on this site that continue to try to divide Ukraine supporters too. Its very sad because Ukraine needs ALL her friends, not just those that hate Trump for personal reasons.

          • Nothing misleading about actual words. The term TDS certainly applies precisely in your case. The KP is quoting the exact, vile words of ruZZian asset Trump and his even more loathsome supporters.
Waltz is giving Crimea away, Trump rules out Nato, Vance rules out the EU, Captain Cornflake wants to freeze the existing lines and Trump wants to delay “peace negotiations” to give putler time to steal more land and murder more Ukrainian children. Trump even rules out long range fires.
You are a fanatic who voted for a convicted criminal who very clearly and demonstrably despises Ukraine. Trumpkov Jr has gone a bit further; he wants Ukraine and particularly Zel dead. He was the first to gloat about ending all aid. It takes a special type of asshole to provide succour not to the victim, but to the genocidal nazis that are committing the bestial, savage crimes.

            Trump on putler :

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.” “He used the word ‘independent’ and ‘we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.’ You gotta say that’s pretty savvy.”

            Trump on Orban:

“There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s fantastic….”

            Trump on Zelensky:

Trump ripped into Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him “maybe the greatest salesman of any politician that’s ever lived.”

            Trump on Jin Ping :

            “a strong and powerful man….”

            Trump on Liz Cheney:

“Former President Donald Trump called former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney a “radical war hawk” and said she should see how it feels to face guns “trained on her face.”

Can you see a pattern here?

            Trump appointees:

Musk, Gabbard, Waltz, Vance, RFK Jr, Kellogg; who wants to exert “maximum pressure” on Iran, but not on russia, Lanza, Bannon, Ramaswamy, Gaetz (putlerist turd who had to drop out because of sordid crimes).

            Spot the pattern here?

As if Reagan or even the Bushes would even dream of hiring such putrid trash for their teams? Unimaginable.
