Italy will transfer additional SAMP/T air defense system to Ukraine

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that his country will provide Ukraine with the SAMP/T air defense system as part of the ninth military aid package. Now the full list of weapons is unknown, Sky TG24 reports .

The Italian minister was asked during a hearing before members of the foreign affairs committees of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Senate whether the new military aid package would include long-range missiles.

“It (the package – UNIAN) will be presented to the parliamentary security control committee of Italy, there is secrecy,” Tajani answered the question.

In addition, the politician emphasized that if secrecy is removed from military assistance to Ukraine, which was introduced by the previous government, then such questions will no longer arise, in particular, we are talking about the cost of the transferred assistance.

“The only thing that is known is that a SAMP/T defensive battery will be sent to protect the skies over Ukraine,” Tajani repeated.

Military assistance from Italy – what is known

As UNIAN wrote, during the peace summit, Antonio Tajani announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine . He also invited President Vladimir Zelensky to visit Italy and assured of constant support from his country.

In addition, in early May, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto reported that his country was preparing a new package of military assistance to Ukraine .

“We have always said that Ukraine needs to be helped in every possible way, and we are doing this, but we have also always ruled out direct intervention of our military in the conflict,” the politician noted.
