The court of Naples decided to completely release a citizen of Ukraine, the former chief director of the Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater Yevgeny Lavrenchuk, who was illegally detained in Naples in December 2021 at the request of Nazi Russia.
Servants of Themis refused to extradite the theatrical figure to the Russian Federation, recognizing the charges against him by the aggressor state as fabricated, and the motives for persecution as political, said Lyudmila Denisova, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada.

“The decision was the result of an appeal initiated by me from the National Police of Ukraine to Interpol about Russia’s misuse of information in the Interpol information system. As a result of this appeal, information regarding the citizen of Ukraine Yevgeny Lavrenchuk, which was processed in the records of Interpol at the request of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Russian Federation, was deleted due to their inconsistency with the provisions of Article 3 of the Charter of Interpol, according to which it is strictly forbidden to carry out any intervention or activity, military, religious or racial nature,” the Ombudsman said.
Denisova expressed her gratitude to the Minister of Justice of Italy Marta Catari, the head of the National Police of Ukraine Igor Klymenko, the consular service of Ukraine in Italy.
Recall that Eugene flew to Italy on December 15, 2021. On the 18th, he planned to hold an acting seminar in Lvov, but he did not show up. Later it became known that the Italian authorities detained the director at the request of the Russian Federation.
The decision to arrest Yevgeny in absentia in July 2020 was made by the Tagansky Court of Moscow.
Before the start of the war, the director headed the Polish Theater in Moscow, which, after Yevgeny left the Russian Federation for Ukraine (in protest against aggression), was declared bankrupt, and its founders were held civilly liable for debts. Apparently, the case in which Lavrenchuk was arrested is connected with this trial.
Ukrainian theater workers have organized a support group for the director on social networks and demand that he be released. They believe that the case in Russia is fabricated.
In January, an Italian court changed Lavrenchuk’s preventive measure. He was transferred from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest.

Never really understood what this was all about and why Russia wanted him. I’m glad it worked out positively for our Ukrainian brother.
Russia has been misusing Interpol for a very long time. I look forward to the time a warrant is issued through Interpol for the arrest of the Russian government under Putin for crimes against humanity in Ukraine and elsewhere.
