Against the backdrop of a possible military invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, Europe is considering the possibility of reducing gas supplies from Russia.

This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, according to Reuters .

“Our models in the event of a partial disruption or further reduction of gas supplies by Gazprom now show that we are rather in a safe situation,” said von der Leyen.READ ALSO:

The head of the European Commission also noted that the EU is currently negotiating the possibility of deliveries of liquefied and natural gas from the United States, Qatar, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Nigeria and South Korea.

According to the head of the European Commission, Europe is interested in reducing the EU’s dependence on Russian gas, and in the event of a limitation of supplies, it will completely cope with the situation.

Russian aggression and gas supplies:

On February 9, 2022, information appeared that in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine, Japan is ready to approve  emergency supplies  of surplus natural gas to Europe.

On February 14, 2022, against the background of the aggravation of the situation on the Ukrainian border, the Italian government announced that it intended to reduce dependence on Russian gas .
