“It destroys all our security”: Europe is outraged by Trump’s words about encouraging Russian aggression

Trump is putting not only European countries at risk, but also America itself, officials say.

The leadership of NATO and the European Union is outraged  by Donald Trump’s statement that he will allow Russia to attack NATO countries that spend little on defense. According to Politico , officials on both sides of the Atlantic have already voiced their reactions.

“Any suggestion that allies will not protect each other undermines all of our security, including the security of the United States, and puts American and European soldiers at increased risk,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The current President of the European Council (the main governing body of the EU), Charles Michel, also criticized Trump.

“Reckless statements regarding NATO security and solidarity under Article 5 (which obliges alliance members to protect each other from external aggression – UNIAN) serve only Putin’s interests. They do not bring more security or peace to the world,” he said.

The US Democratic Party is also outraged by Trump’s statements questioning America’s reliability as a military ally.

“Trump has boasted that he would encourage Russia to ‘do whatever they want’ to our NATO allies if they don’t spend enough on defense. He is more interested in aggrandizing himself and pleasing Putin than protecting our allies.” said California Democrat Adam Schiff.

What exactly did Trump say?

During a campaign rally in South Carolina, the US presidential candidate said that NATO was “destroyed” until he came to the White House and made the alliance’s members “pay”.

He also said that the leader of a European country asked him whether the United States would defend his country if Russia attacked. To this, Trump, in his own words, responded that he would “tell Russia to do whatever they want” with countries that do not spend enough on their defense.

The Biden administration has already responded to this statement. White House spokesman Andrew Bates called Trump’s words “terrible and baseless,” emphasizing that such “encouraging invasions by murderous regimes” poses a direct threat to US national security.

  1. I just don’t understand this. What am I missing? Understand I voted for this guy in the past but I just can’t see voting for him again. Is this what the President of The United States should be saying? What am I missing? Please tell me.

  2. Some figures: GDP EU $19.35 trillion
    GDP UK $3.13 trillion
    GDP Canada $1.98 trillion

    GDP mafialand $1.8 trillion

The West, should be able to protect itself quite easily without the help of the USA. It might mean the fat cats in Brussels going without their champagne and caviar, but we all need to make sacrifices. If the political will is there, Europe can defend itself and tell the US to gfy. Europe already has enough nukes to wipe mafia land off the face of the Earth, so just concentrate on weapons production.

    • What the hell am I missing? The republicans voting for this guy can’t all be crazy. So what I missing? WTH is the draw to this guy? I get Biden and the problems he’s caused but Trump to mind could be far more dangerous. I just don’t get it being a lifetime republican and a proud Reagan Republican. WTF??? Red if you’re reading this please respond. I’m really trying to understand the draw.

      • You’re missing that you really were with crazy, Captain. Many of these hardcore Trumpists are plain nuts (unhinged conspiracy theorists), others sociopaths (who see Trump as one 8f their own) and some love him for acting like an anti-establishment rebel (which he ain’t). They may occasionally pass as normal, but that’s superficial. You, as a reasonable traditional Republican, have nothing in common with them (in earlier times, such nutcases used to be Birchers and LaRouchers or were put in an institution). Sadly, you folks are the minority in the formerly grand ole party now.

        • I hear you Gray. I do believe the media is partly to blame. I’d like to know if this this little tidbit is widely known…Iowa caucuses. 56,000 voted for Trump. Trump came out and said how overwhelmingly he won Iowa. 56,000!!! There are about 2,000,000… yes that is two million registered republicans in that state. That’s less then 3% or the registered republicans. This little tidbit tells me the electorate want a third choice. IMHO.

  3. Not only European voices respond:
“Don’t take the side of someone who has gone in and invaded a country, and half a million people have died or been wounded because of Putin. Don’t take the side of someone who continues to lie. I dealt with Russia every day. The last thing we ever want to do is side with Russia.”

    • Nikki is a righteous and clever woman. It’s too bad that so many people want a dull-minded dirt bag as POTUS.
