The agreement was allegedly concluded during the visit of the Iranian delegation to Moscow.

Iran has agreed to provide Russia with surface-to-surface missiles and additional drones. 

This was reported by Reuters with reference to two high-ranking Iranian officials and two Iranian diplomats.

The agreement between Iran and Russia was signed on October 6 during the visit of Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber to Moscow.

“The Russians have been asking for more drones and Iranian ballistic missiles with improved accuracy, in particular the Fateh and Zolfaghar missile families,” one Iranian diplomat briefed on the visit said.

A well-informed Western official confirmed this, saying that Iran and Russia have entered into an agreement to supply short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, specifically Zolfaghar.

At the same time, the Iranian diplomat, in a commentary to the agency, denied the allegations of Western officials that the supply of Iranian weapons to Russia violated the UN Security Council resolution of 2015.

“Where they (drones, missiles – UNIAN) are used is not a question for the seller. We do not take sides in the Ukrainian crisis, like the West. We want to end the crisis through diplomacy,” the diplomat said.

Iran’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine

In mid-August, it became known that the Russian Federation had acquired a thousand drones from the Iranian side, in particular, kamikaze drones. Officially, Iran  continues to deny  the provision of drones to the Russian Federation. Against this background, Ukraine  turned to Israel with a request to share intelligence about any support that Iran provides to the Russian military in the war.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Ukrainian intelligence, in general,  Russia ordered 2,400 drones from Iran .

The defenders of Ukraine shot down  the first Iranian drone  on September 13 in the Kharkiv region. And on September 23, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners shot down a Mohajer-6 attack drone. Now this  unmanned aerial vehicle is used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On October 10 and 11, Russian troops massively attacked Ukraine. In addition to various types of missiles, kamikaze drones were also used. The enemy  sent drones to Krivoy Rog to attack critical infrastructure , in the Vinnitsa region  they attacked a thermal power plant .

On October 17, Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the European Union is gathering evidence and is ready to respond to the  use of Iranian drones in Russia’s war against Ukraine . The EU is very closely monitoring the use of drones, collecting evidence. And they will be ready to respond with the tools at their disposal.

Yesterday, Kuleba called on the European Union to apply sanctions against Iran for supplying arms to Russia.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that last week there were 300 Iranian kamikaze drones in the Russian Federation, the general contract provides for the transfer of 2.4 thousand such units to the Russians.

The Washington Post, citing US and allied security officials, reported that Iran plans to send Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar surface-to-surface ballistic missiles to Russia for war against Ukraine.
