Ukraine in the coming days will receive from NATO the means to counter Iranian kamikaze drones , which Russia is actively using to attack peaceful cities.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a discussion at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum on Tuesday.

“The most important thing we can do is to deliver on what the members of the Alliance have promised to activate and add more air defense systems. In the coming days, NATO will transfer anti-drone systems to counter the specific threat of drones, including from Iran” , Stoltenberg said.

He also stressed that “no state should support Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine,” commenting on Iran’s actions. However, Stoltenberg added that the air defense systems transferred to Kyiv “changed the situation on the battlefield.”

“That is why Russia was unable to gain control of Ukrainian airspace. This was a significant shortcoming of Russian forces throughout the operation: they expected that they would be able to take control of the airspace, but this did not happen,” he added.

Iranian drones in service with the Russian Federation

In mid-August, it became known that Russia had acquired a thousand kamikaze drones from the Iranian side. Overall, Russia ordered 2,400 drones from Iran , according to Ukrainian intelligence  .

Officially, Iran  continues to deny  the provision of drones to the Russian Federation. Ukraine  has asked Israel to share intelligence  about any support Iran is providing to the Russian military in the war.

On October 10 and 11, Russian troops massively attacked Ukraine. In addition to various types of missiles, kamikaze drones were also used. The enemy  sent drones to attack critical infrastructure .

During the  morning attack of Kiev  by Shaheeds on October 17, patrol policemen, a TRO fighter, an operative and a commando shot down a drone on approaching the target from machine guns and pistols. Sniper training instructor Pavel Kashchuk  gave instructions on how to fight with martyrs .

Reuters  reported today, citing two senior Iranian officials and two Iranian diplomats, that  Iran has agreed to provide Russia with  surface-to-surface missiles and additional drones.
