The former British Prime Minister is convinced that Putin is now celebrating.
Donald Trump’s “peace plan” is an unjustified attempt to coerce Ukraine into capitulation. Given the strategic situation in the war, the American proposal can only be explained by the incompetence of US leadership. Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson writes this in an opinion piece for the Daily Mail .
He notes that Putin is probably now sitting in one of his many palaces, watching the news on television and “unwittingly smiling at the incompetence of his opponents, the stunning weakness of the West.”

Johnson notes that over the four years of war, Russia has lost over a million soldiers killed and wounded, but has failed to capture significantly more than the 20% of Ukrainian territory it controlled at the start of the war. He also mentions the crisis in the Russian economy. And yet, against this backdrop, the US is rolling out a “peace plan” that seems to have been originally written in the Kremlin, the politician notes.
“This is ridiculous. The so-called peace plan envisages the military castration of Ukraine. It demands a Russian veto on Ukraine’s NATO membership and Russian control over the entry of any foreign troops into Ukrainian territory. The document proposes that the Ukrainians not only abandon any attempts to recapture Crimea or Donbas, but also hand over vast tracts of territory that the Russians don’t even control, including some 250,000 Ukrainian civilians,” Johnson fumed.
The former head of the British government, who in the past highly praised Trump, now calls his decision “a complete betrayal of Ukraine” that is “impossible to believe.
“If Kyiv were mad enough to agree to these terms, they would become Moscow’s puppets, constantly threatened with a third invasion. You see, this is the complete capitulation of Ukraine’s so-called friends. This is Munich,” Johnson writes, referring to the 1938 Munich Agreement, under which Britain and France gave Germany a chunk of Czechoslovakia.
Johnson believes that the protests of other Western countries against Trump’s “peace plan” are not strong enough, including Britain itself.
