In Russia, in 6 years there will no longer be civil aviation: experts have revealed details

To avoid this, the Russian Federation must produce more than five thousand airliners in six years to replace Boeing and Airbus, but the Russian Federation currently produces 1-2 passenger aircraft per year.

In a recent interview, the head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, admitted that sometime in 2030, the biggest problems in civil aviation will begin in the Russian Federation. According to him, from 2030 there will be a noticeable departure of foreign aircraft from Russian airlines, since there will no longer be the ability to repair them.

Commenting on this statement, Defense Express experts recall that Boeing and Airbus have left the Russian market, and Russian aircraft are also prohibited from flying to the USA and Europe.

“All this led to the fact that about 550 Western-made airliners were left without spare parts, and although this was formally about 65% of all Russian passenger aircraft, but 95% of all flights,” experts note.

According to Defense Express, as of March 2023, about 470 Western aircraft were already flying in Russia. At the same time, the Russian Federation is trying to correct this situation, but in a rather original way – due to the lack of spare parts, aircraft are repaired and maintained less.

The head of Rostec noted that to get out of this situation, it is necessary to produce a sufficient number of aircraft – MC-21, Superjet, Tu-214, Il-114, Il-96, which should be provided by all Russian airlines.

Thus, Defense Express points out, in six years, about five thousand airliners should be “riveted” in the Russian Federation, and this is a completely unrealistic scenario.

Thus, in 2023, the aircraft plant in Kazan was not able to deliver a single Tu-214. And by 2030, according to the plan, only 70 of these aircraft should be produced, of which not all will be passenger airliners. Production of the Il-96 is predicted to be a maximum of one aircraft per year, and in total only 33 aircraft have been assembled.

As for the Superjet, it has not yet been imported since 2019. The same situation is with the MS-21 – the main problem in the PD family of engines.

Regarding the Il-114, after the crash of the military transport Il-112 in 2021 due to an engine fire, its testing was suspended and resumed only at the end of March 2024.

“That is, in the Russian Federation, the problem with civil aviation is complex and quite predictable, because there is no stable production of airliners and we are talking about 1-2 passenger aircraft per year. And although for a closed totalitarian country a decrease in external passenger traffic is not a problem, for the Russian Federation it is critical to ensure domestic flights,” experts say.

The problem with planes in the Russian Federation

In Russia, Western aircraft are beginning to break down more and more often due to lack of repairs and a shortage of spare parts.

Large-scale serial production of the MS-21 passenger airliner , designed to replace foreign aircraft in Russia, has failed for the second time since the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine. According to the head of the Rostec state corporation Sergei Chemezov, deliveries of aircraft to Russian airlines are postponed to 2025-2026.
