He also said once again that if he had been in charge of the White House at the time, there would not have been a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump, commenting on his conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin , said that he believes in the Kremlin ruler’s desire to end the full-scale war that his country has been waging against Ukraine for almost three years.

“I believe him. I believe he wants peace. I know him very well and I think he wants peace. I think he would tell me if that were not the case. I believe he would like to see things happen – I trust him on that,”  he said during a conversation with reporters.

The American president also once again repeated his words that the war in Ukraine should not have started, and that part of the blame for this lies with the previous US president, Joe Biden.

“I don’t see any way that a country in Russia’s position would allow Ukraine to join NATO. I just don’t see how that would be possible. And long before Putin, Russia was categorically against it. I think that’s one of the reasons why the war started – because Biden said that Ukraine could join NATO. He shouldn’t have said that. As soon as he said that, I thought: now there’s going to be a war. And I was right,” Trump said.

He also said once again that if he had been in charge of the White House at the time, there would not have been a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine:

“When Biden said Ukraine could join NATO, I thought that was a really stupid thing to do. And his talk about a ‘minor incursion,’ as if it’s OK for Russia to do a little aggression, was just incredibly stupid.”
