According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijártó, his country is in favor of peaceful negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Hungary decided to refuse to provide 18 million dollars for weapons to Ukraine . This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijártó, during his press conference .

“We decided to use this $18 million to strengthen security in Chad, to create a new educational institution to train army officers in Chad and to improve the capabilities of the Chadian armed forces,” he said.

According to him, Budapest refused to allocate such funds, because they would have gone to pay for weapons that would be sent to Ukraine. VIDEO OF THE DAYPlay Video

Szijártó added that the Hungarian authorities are in favor of a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, so this money will be used to maintain security and stability in Chad.

Hungary’s position regarding the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine

As UNIAN wrote, earlier Peter Szijártó gave an interview to the Russian mass media, in which he emphasized that Hungary has never taken part and will not take part in actions aimed at supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Also, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO  will not be able to strengthen the defense of Europe , therefore Ukraine should become a buffer zone between Russia and the countries of the West.

    • I wonder if Hungarian taxpayers are worried that much, too. They should be trolled on social media: “Hey, you big spenders, you ok with your Forints going to Chad? Can you even find that country on a map? What’s the point, does Orban have a palace there?”
      😁

  1. A mere 18 millions, that’s small potatoes compared with the costs of war. The whole point of this announcement seems to be to troll Ukraine and the West, I suspect. Because, come on, what exactly are Hungary’s great national interests in effing Chad? That’s ridiculous. 🙄

  2. The EU tolerating this obvious fascist country that opposes democracy and righteousness makes the EU into a hypocritical union. Hungary opposes everything the EU stands for.
Ditto for NATO and its tolerance for Hungary’s outrageous behavior.
Hungary brings nothing of value to either organization. It weakens them and paralyzes them.
