Here is how Ukrainians were viewing Russians in recent 15 years. Blue is βGoodβ, Red is βBadβ. The first change happened when over 100 protesters were killed in 2014 and Crimea was taken. But even after that treachery it was 50-50. Many still had illusions that it was βjust Putinβ. 2nd fall to the ground was obviously after the invasion.
And mind it that we had also a revolution in 2004 when a Putin-supported candidate rigged the elections, we were still positive about common Russians. We were bringing flowers and soft toys to Russian embassy when their planes were crushing, even after 2014.
So anyone tells you we Ukrainians are Russophobes, show them this diagram. Our Russophobia is a very reasonable one. It did not come out of the blue and was not inspired by some hate cult. We need to be such for survival. And our friendliness in the past did not work well as you can see. We forgot all the genocides they committed in the past and thought we may just live as neighbors, maybe just exchange jokes about each other sometimes. You see how mistaken we were. That diagram red diagram went high after the blood was spilled.
You may still say that generalizing is bad and each person should be judged individually. I agree, but let me explain. So I see a random Russian man that I do not know. I am well aware that about 2 million Russians serve in the army, another 4 million work as subcontractors for Ministry of Defense, over 80% support the aggression by action or inaction, and I know there are some minority that stand against it (1% or something). So, there is a huge chance that the Russian I see is involved in some degree, from passive ignorance to commitment of military crimes. What pre-disposition should I have? That I met that 1% minority?
Before answering, think about how you would react to an unknown snake if you encountered it in nature. Just 20% of snakes are venomous, 80% are absolutely safe for humans. But if you do not know what this specific snake is, the most reasonable action would be to keep away from it. And itβs just 20%, not 80%. I hope you get the analogy.
So there are Russians that I respect because they have proved to be decent people. I mentioned 1% from my own experience, not out of the blue. For all others, I will have to use filters before I consider them worth talking to. And don’t tell me I am wrong if you have no similar emotional experience as I do.
And yes, we still have some 3% who perceive Russia positively. They are either building some very complicated reasoning or have no ability to reason at allβ¦

Wanted to write what I expect from Trump’s victory and his βend the war in 24 hoursβ promise. But then I just deleted the text. Because I want to be wrong. I want to be positive and believe in good outcomes. I want to believe in some secret plan and that I don’t really understand things.
But as I always try to build my picture of reality on facts, I canβt just hope, I need evidence. So I am waiting for the smoke of celebration to fade away and see what is going to happen reallyβ¦

When Putin invaded Ukraine for the second time he called it “genius” He has never spoken against him or criticized his innumerable crimes. He has, however, on many occasions criticized and ridiculed ZeΕenski, so If I were Ukraine I would have serious reservations about what kind of deal Trump wants to make.

About 800 IDF soldiers lost their lives (if I googled it right). In Ukraine, the number is about 100 times higher (yes I know itβs not certain but is likely). If we take the population (10 million Israel vs 40 million Ukraine), then Ukrainians lost 25 times more soldiers per capita. Why? Technologies. Israel has the best up-to-date aviation and air defense while Ukraine had to fight with infantry weapons when the war started. And of course, Russia has times more tanks, bombers, and shells than Iran and their proxies. And when Iran launches rockets and drones on Israel, US and other shoots them down. When Russia does it, we have to shoot it ourselves.
Yes, I know Israel has gone a long way before gaining this superiority. They started with manual manufacturing underground, and gradually reached their current level of technology. Ukraine has yet to go this way. But it has to survive first.
Itβs steel vs flesh, and there is some ghastly exchange rate. If we have no tank, cannon, air defense, or ammunition, it may be compensated with human lives. But we do not have as many humans as Russia has, and we value lives more than them. So we need technology and advanced weapons to hold and win them. No matter how brave our warriors are, they have the same bodies like any others. So if we are not given weapons, we die. Sometimes valiantly on the battlefield, sometimes just in sleep in our homes.
In the colonial era, 1 slave was dying on plantations to produce 1 ton of sugar. No one cared of course. Now, a Ukrainian dies every time he has not enough weapons. A Ukrainian dies every time you buy cheap Russian gas and oil. I do not know how to calculate it, but I am sure there is some real cost of human life in dollars. And youβll be surprised how cheap it is. I say cheap because the cost of support for an average Westerner is 15 USD/EUR monthly. I feel sort of desperate every time I think that 15 USD is the price of my life for someone across the border. It ruins the picture of the world I had in my mind before the war. But some people care so littleβ¦
I see lots of discussions if this is βtoo muchβ and comments that we are βnot thankfulβ. Hello, we are still dying, and I think this alone allows us to be direct and not jump around with diplomatic tricks worrying about how each word may be taken. Thatβs why we are asking for weapons, thatβs why we are asking not to make any business with Russians. We are asking all this to stay alive, not to have some shooting fun, and not because we hate Moskovites for nothing. We are screaming at the West sometimes not because we are spoiled with their money, but because the gun points on our faces and we don’t see enough action. We know you have enough resources to end this, but have the impression that we are in some bloody show behind the glass wall and need to impress with new plot twists. But you know that that glass may break and you may become part of the show yourself?
