According to the general, there is a country in Europe that should be more interested in Ukraine’s victory than others.

Former commander of the US Army in Europe Ben Hodges answered whether Ukraine has a chance to win the war, given the likely change of the US President based on the results of the elections that will take place in 8 months.

“If we already knew who the next president would be, we would be Russia. But we don’t know who the president will be. I hope Biden gets re-elected, not because I support all of his policies, but because, in my opinion, “A Trump administration will be terrible for America and our democracy,” Hodges told the BBC .

The general noted that many European friends of the United States have reason to be extremely concerned about Trump’s likely return to the White House. It shows no respect for international law and harms NATO cohesion.

“But look, Ukraine is a sovereign state. Germany, Great Britain, France are all sovereign states. And they are capable of more. If you add up the united economies of the entire EU, it will eclipse what Russia has. Population, economic potential and much better united troops. Even if the United States does not do what it needs to do in our own interests, it is in our interests that Ukraine win. If we do not do this, the threat to Europe will be even worse. So the Europeans will have to get to work, take this seriously “to help Ukraine defeat Russia,” the general noted.

As Hodges noted, if Russia wins, “Germany will be the biggest loser.” This will destroy confidence in the country and make it hostage to the Russian nuclear threat. In addition, Germany will once again have millions of refugees.

“It’s in Germany’s interest for Ukraine to defeat Russia. So we all have to do everything we can to make that happen. This is not charity for Ukraine, it’s in our interests,” Hodges said.
