In Odessa, a lightning strike caused the church of the Holy Iversky Monastery, which belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC MP), which was banned in Ukraine due to its ties to the Russian Federation, to catch fire.

“This morning, on Nebesnaya Sotny Street, a fire broke out in the dome of a church at a monastery,” the regional headquarters of the State Emergency Service reported .

It is said that the difficulty of extinguishing the fire was the lack of access routes for large fire trucks. However, the firefighters managed to install a boom lift, from which they quickly extinguished the fire on an area of 20 square meters, and prevented the fire from spreading to the entire building.

“Fortunately, there are no casualties or injuries. The probable cause of the fire is a lightning strike,” the rescuers said.

Almost fifty firefighters were called in to extinguish the fire.
