The New York Times media outlet has reported that German government officials are concerned about negative consequences for NATO in the event of Donald Trump being elected President again, or Russia winning in Ukraine.

Details: The perspective of Trump being re-elected makes German officials and many of their colleagues from NATO lead informal discussion as to whether the structure of the Alliance will be able to survive without the US as its leader.
Many German officials say that the best strategic hope of Russian President Vladimir Putin is NATO’s split.
Sources of NYT in the German government state that it is impossible to return to previous relations with Putin’s Russia, that they do not expect significant progress in the war in Ukraine this year but they are afraid of the consequences of Putin’s win.
Their immediate concern is growing pessimism about the United States continuing to fund Ukraine’s struggle.
Unnamed German officials stated that if American funding dries up and Russia prevails, its next target will be closer to Berlin.

- Earlier, Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, expressed his doubt that if Trump returns to the White House, he will be lenient towards Russian President Putin.
- Meanwhile Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, stated that he is not concerned with the US leaving the Alliance, even if former US President Trump wins the elections in November 2024.
- Before that George Robertson, former NATO Secretary General and former Defence Minister of the UK, said that Putin’s strategy to wait for Trump’s return is another mistake of the Kremlin.
- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia stressed that Trump says the same things about security as Joe Biden and Barack Obama did.

Germany has done much to help bring us to where we now are. It all started with Schröder, who allowed himself to be bought by muscovy like some cheap hooker. Merkel, too, did her part to make Europe an insecure continent. Neither she nor Schröder saw the evilness that was festering in moscow. Poland warned Berlin, so did all three Baltic States. Czechia, too. But, Berlin knew better. No crimes that mafia land committed brought Berlin off its course.
What is the fruit of their labor? Many years and two pro-mafia chancellors later, we have the biggest war in Europe since WWII. Now, Berlin has learned what it means to appease a criminal.
But, there is nothing in German news sites to be seen about the massive mistakes that Germany has made. Neither Schröder nor Merkel have admitted their mistakes, much less apologized for them.
Not to be forgotten, France also made massive mistakes with its relationship with mafia land. It’s as guilty as Germany. But, France is spending far less to help Ukraine than Germany. It’s a dishonorable country.
There isn’t much I can add to this.
Oh just one thing. I don’t see how not sending Taurus and these “concerns” add up.

The EU has an economy of 24 trillion Euro. Are they saying that they need the US to survive? The EU needs to get their shit together, with an economy 20 times larger than mafia land, they shouldn’t even need US support.
I agree. Although I think money doesn’t win wars. Weapons do, and Europe doesn’t have a lot.
Still, there is MUCH more they can do.

I think it’s because they are like children, foccusser. They’ve been under our wing for so long, they feel helpless without us.
The EU could budget for 5% to be spent on weapons, it would still be 5 times what the orcs spend on weapons in a year. If the EU don’t think their security is worth 5%, then they deserve to be taken over by mafia land.
Indeed, the EU could do a lot more if the will was there. Sometimes I wish that the roaches would fire a few missiles and drones into a NATO country, as a sort of wake-up call.
Germany seems to be deeply conflicted over the war. Polls suggest the people are against supporting Ukraine, but the leadership seems to understand the importance of supporting Ukraine. AfD, a leftist party, wants Germany to come down on the side of Russia. Given Germany’s history with Russia, you would think they would be past such stupidity. The AfD is an Ossie party, and like Merkel, they sympathize with Russia.
AfD is far right; same as the parties of Wilders, Le Pen, Orban etc.
People are basically stupid and have very short memories, but not only in Germany.
