Germany wants to purchase mobile Typhon ground-based launchers from the United States, capable of launching missiles with a range of approximately 2,000 kilometers.

According to n-tv , this was announced to journalists by the country’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a visit to Washington. He noted that Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth responded positively to this request. Washington is now examining whether it is ready to hand them over to Berlin.

High-precision missiles with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers can reach the territory of the Russian Federation, but Pistorius assures that these installations will be used only for deterrence.

Typhon installations

The Typhon Mobile Missile System (officially known as the Mid-Range Capability, or MRC) is a modern ground-based platform developed by the US Army to launch medium-range missiles.

It is capable of using  Tomahawk cruise missiles , which have a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, as well as SM-6 missiles, which can hit both air and ground targets at a distance of approximately 500 kilometers.

The system is based on a truck chassis and includes launchers, a command post, and transport-loading vehicles. Due to its mobility, it can be quickly deployed to any region, and its range allows it to cover a large part of the enemy’s territory without entering the range of enemy air defense systems.

The Typhon system has already been deployed in the Philippines, and in 2026 it is planned to be deployed in Europe – as part of the strengthening of the NATO defense grouping.
