The German Foreign Ministry has decided to expel from the country a “significant number” of employees of the Russian embassy in Berlin.
According to Spiegel , Germany is expelling 40 employees of the Russian embassy, they must leave the country within 5 days. At the same time, the German Foreign Ministry did not name a specific number of diplomats who are going to be expelled.
Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said the government had decided to declare a significant number of Russian embassy employees undesirable.
“They have been working daily against our freedom and against the cohesion of our society here in Germany. Your work is a threat to those who seek asylum with us. We will not tolerate this anymore,” Burbock added.
On the eve of the decision, the Federal Foreign Office worked closely with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Back in mid-March, the secret service compiled lists of Russian diplomats who directly or indirectly work for various Russian special services in Germany.
Burbock even hinted that Russian services in Germany might be planning something against Ukrainian refugees, or at least spying on them. The minister noted that the work of the expelled diplomats is “a threat to those who apply for protection.”
“We will initiate further reactions together with our partners. We will further strengthen existing sanctions against Russia, decisively increase our support for the Ukrainian armed forces, and also strengthen NATO’s eastern flank,” Burbock said.
Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia decided to reduce the level of diplomatic representation with Russia and ordered the Russian ambassador to leave the country.

Germany has some slow learners too. We have a lot of Germans visiting these pages so I’m sure this isn’t news to them either. They saw Merkel apologize for Putin for years.
