Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration, Lyudmila Sugak, has been appointed acting Minister of Justice.

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to remove German Galushchenko from his duties as Minister of Justice.

Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced the decision .

“This morning, we held an extraordinary government meeting. We decided to remove German Galushchenko from his duties as Minister of Justice,” she wrote on Telegram. According to her, the government’s decision appointed Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration Lyudmila Sugak as acting minister.

NABU tapes: What is Galushchenko’s role?

As UNIAN reported, on November 11, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) released new audio recordings of conversations between participants in a large-scale embezzlement scheme at JSC Energoatom, likely including former Energy Minister and current Justice Minister Herman Galushchenko.

The head of the NABU’s main detective unit, Oleksandr Abakumov, said that, according to investigators, he led the criminal organization “Karlson” (according to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, this nickname refers to businessman Timur Mindich), who oversaw the operation of the so-called “laundromat,” where criminally obtained funds were laundered.Read also:

The recordings show a person, identified by detectives as then-Energy Minister Galushchenko, communicating with, according to investigators, the head of the “laundromat.” The conversation revolves around sums to be paid for the construction of a specific facility, in other words, a discussion of kickbacks.

On November 10, NABU and SAP launched a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. Specifically, law enforcement officers conducted searches at Energoatom and the home of Justice Minister Galushchenko.
