A pre-trial investigation has been completed in Kharkiv into a Russian agent who killed a Ukrainian serviceman, blew up the Shevchenkivskyi district administration and vehicles, and planned an assassination attempt on the head of the Kharkiv OVA, Oleg Synegubov , and the head of the Dergachivskyi military administration, Vyacheslav Zadorenko.

As Censor.NET reports , the head of the investigative department of the Main Police Department in the Kharkiv region, Serhiy Bolvinov, spoke about the details of this case .

“The suspect’s name is Alexander. He has combat experience. He fought in Afghanistan. He is proud that he fought in the White Wolves group, which was part of the Serbian army in the conflict between Serbia and Croatia. After the end of the war, he lived in Crimea. He was part of a criminal group. After the murder of the leader of this group, he moved with his family to Belgorod,” the post says.

According to Bolvinov, the investigation into the case began on March 5, 2024, when a soldier died from a gunshot wound to the back in Saltivka. Law enforcement officers retraced the deceased’s route and found witnesses who pointed to the suspect.  

Using cameras, law enforcement officers were able to roughly determine where the suspect might have lived. Investigators found his apartment, but no one was there. However, they found the gun used to shoot the soldier.

Then, says Bolvinov, there are explosions of the Shevchenko administration building and military vehicles in different areas of the city. Investigators have established that one person was involved in this.

“The operatives compare the records from their recorders, find a similar description, a probable arsonist. What’s more, one of the police officers recognizes him. Several years ago, this man was already caught for petty theft , then his last name was Bezsmertnykh. Then the investigators establish round-the-clock surveillance of the defendant and see that he regularly enters the territory of one of the garden societies on the outskirts of the city, on Klochkivska Street,” Bolvinov continued.

He wanted to kill Synegubov and Zadorenko

Law enforcement officers tracked down the suspect. They found that he was constantly changing clothes and probably lived in an abandoned house in Malaya Danylovka.

“They took fingerprints and immediately saw that it was Oleksandr Holub/Bezsmertnykh, he really had a history of petty thefts with us, and he even served time for two of the episodes. A large-scale special operation is starting around the garden society, the entire area has been surrounded, a real hunt has been organized. But the attacker has not appeared again,” Bolvinov noted.

The investigators also found that he had a house in  Kozacha Lopan . And then the police decided to just take the train that was still going there. That’s how the suspect was caught.

“The detention took place at around 3:00 p.m. And literally an hour and a half after that, we receive information that someone had placed an explosive device under the car of the head of the Dergachivskaya MVA. He himself noticed something suspicious under the car when he parked on a hill, and immediately called the police. In the video from the cameras near this car, we see the familiar “moustache”, this time he is dressed as a utility worker, in a special vest,” Bolvinov clarified.

Investigators already learned from the suspect who was to be the next victim.

“At first we were a little surprised and shocked when he told us that at the time we detained him, he was expecting Zadorenko’s explosion and after the explosion he was preparing to attack Synegubov. Synegubov’s murder was supposed to be public. He explained that the murder was supposed to take place in this way. To kill Mr. Synegubov, he was given three grenades. It was agreed with the Russian special services that they would tell him in advance the place where the Russian KAB or missile would hit. This should be a residential building where there would be the maximum number of civilian casualties. The leadership of the region and the city should arrive at this place. He should know this place in advance and prepare for the attack. According to his developed plan, the attack should be on the head of the administration himself using the grenades that were given to him,” law enforcement officials say.

Bolvinov stated that this was the first case of preparation for the assassination of the head of the HOVA.
