Chinese military captured in Donetsk region, Zelenskyy says

According to the president, there are documents confirming that these are Chinese citizens.

In the Donetsk region, the Defense Forces have captured two Chinese servicemen. As an UNIAN correspondent reports, this was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Bartholomew de Vecher on April 8 in Kyiv.

“The British and Germany really gave us a signal regarding the US. This is not news, but nevertheless, they may not be present (at the Ramshain meeting). But it seems to me that we have something to discuss with the Americans. And we will believe that they will change their position, especially after today’s news. We captured Chinese military personnel on the territory of Ukraine,” he said.

According to the president, this happened in the Donetsk region.

“Ukrainians in the Donetsk region – Tarasivka, Bilogorivka – entered the battle with six Chinese military personnel. Two are in captivity. Accordingly, there are documents, there are their passports, there are even credit cards. These are citizens of China,” Zelensky said.

He noted that this is important, and the US needs to pay more attention to what is happening.

“This is another country that militarily supports Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on the side of Russia. This is another (country) after Iran, Syria, the North Korean military. But there is a difference: the North Koreans fought against us on the Kursk salient. The Chinese are fighting on the territory of Ukraine,” the president explained.

He emphasized that this is an important point that we need to urgently discuss with our partners.

In his Telegram channel, Zelensky added that there is information that there are significantly more than two such Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units.

“We are now clarifying all the facts. Intelligence, the SBU, and relevant units of the Armed Forces are working,” he said.

He also stated that he instructed the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to immediately contact Beijing and find out how China intends to respond to this.

“Russia’s involvement, directly or indirectly, of China in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin is going to do anything but end the war. He is looking for ways to continue fighting. This definitely requires a reaction. A reaction from the United States, Europe, and everyone in the world who wants peace,” the president added.
