The French Navy has seized the tanker DF Peak, which is linked to a Russian shadow fleet . The vessel is suspected of using a false flag and transporting fuel in violation of international restrictions, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Macron, the tanker was intercepted in the Indian Ocean, more than 450 nautical miles south of Reunion Island.
French military escorted the vessel for further inspection. According to the French side, a document check confirmed suspicions regarding the legitimacy of the tanker’s flag. Further action regarding the vessel is being taken with the participation of competent authorities.
Macron stated that France is determined to counter the activities of the Russian shadow fleet throughout the world.
