The Cabinet of Ministers approved the allocation of UAH 16.6 billion to ensure flight safety in Ukraine for insurance and leasing companies.

As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on his Telegram channel, the government made such a decision at today’s extraordinary meeting.

“We adopted changes to the use of the State Budget Reserve Fund, and also allocated funds to ensure flight safety in Ukraine for insurance and leasing companies. This decision will stabilize the situation on the passenger air transportation market and guarantee the return to Ukraine of our citizens who are now abroad” he wrote.

Earlier it became known that the Ukrainian airline SkyUp stops selling air tickets on February 14-16.

“Such a decision is associated with increased risks of the outbreak of hostilities. Accordingly, the owners of aircraft – lessors – demand the speedy return of aircraft to the EU,” SkyUp explained.

Possible closure of the sky over Ukraine: what is known

Earlier today, People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko  said that Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov is holding a meeting on the possible suspension of air traffic in Ukraine. Also, according  to  Goncharenko, probably from tomorrow, from 16:00 Kyiv time, air traffic in Ukraine may be suspended.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Dutch  company KLM canceled all flights to Ukraine  as a precautionary measure due to the threat of war in the country. “This decision comes after revised red coded travel advice and extensive safety analysis. It is not yet clear when KLM will fly to Kyiv again,” the airline said.

In addition, due to the requirements of the aircraft owner  , the SkyUp flight  Funchal (Madeira, Portugal) – Boryspil (Ukraine) was no longer allowed to enter Ukraine. About 180 passengers were dropped off in Moldova.

Media sources reported that at the beginning of next week a number of major international insurers  may refuse to cover insured accidents of airlines  when flying in the airspace of Ukraine. Such a development of events will mean a virtual stop of flights of foreign airlines to the country, as well as a threat of blocking Ukrainian carriers.
