Fedorov on resignation: The reason is related to procurement, I stepped on the interests of many people

Former Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov said that the real reason for his resignation was the defense procurement reform, not a conflict with the military leadership.

He said this in an interview with “Ukrainian Pravda”, Censor.NET reports.

Fedorov revealed the true reasons for his resignation

“The reason, which is related to procurement, tenders, the fact that we began to restructure processes in this direction, caused great dissatisfaction among many people who began to constantly influence and sow negativity not only around the president, but also in the media space as a whole,” the former government official said.

Fedorov said that he was not fighting against specific people or groups, but rather sought to change the system itself. Among the main tasks, he named the launch of tenders, restructuring the management of the Ministry of Defense, and a new approach to selecting employees in line with the goals of the reforms.

According to the former minister, he perceived pressure from various sides as part of the process and believed that to solve problems, it was necessary, first of all, to change the fundamental principles of the department’s work.

In addition, the former head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that in April he warned Volodymyr Zelensky about a possible discrediting campaign.

“But somewhere in April, I warned the president: look, now people will come to you and say that something is wrong with me, that I have political ambitions, that I have drone companies, that I broke some processes, etc. You must cross-check this information with me, because I have stepped on the interests of many people and companies. And here your support is needed. You see that the largest Telegram channels in Ukraine were bought out and they began to work strictly against me and my team. Criminal cases began to appear around people who work with me. In the end, we see that this led to a change of government and to the fact that today I am not in office,” Fedorov said.

Fedorov’s resignation

On July 14, the Verkhovna Rada supported the resolution on the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko. The entire Cabinet of Ministers automatically resigned with her.
On July 15, Mikhail Fedorov announced that he was resigning from his post as head of the Ministry of Defense.
Actions in support of Mykhailo Fedorov took place in Dnipro, Rivne, Zaporizhia, Lutsk, Cherkasy, and other cities. Participants are protesting against his resignation.
On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada voted to appoint a new Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine . Prime Minister is Serhiy Koretsky.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he will nominate Yevheniy Khmara for the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine . Prior to this, he instructed Khmara to perform the duties of head of the Ministry of Defense.
Protests against Fedorov’s resignation continued in Ukrainian cities. In addition to demanding Fedorov’s reinstatement as defense minister, people demanded the dismissal of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky.
