Polish MEPs from the European Conservatives and Reformists party have prepared an amendment to the European Parliament report demanding that the UPA be recognized as a “Nazi organization.”

This was stated by the former Prime Minister of Poland, current member of the Sejm and president of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR) Mateusz Morawiecki , Censor.NET reports .

Amendment to the European Parliament report

Morawiecki, who currently heads the European Union of Right-wing Forces, assured that the Polish delegation will use all tools in the international arena to record the condemnation of the Ukrainian nationalist movement at the highest legislative level of the EU.

” We will amend the European Parliament’s report on Ukraine: ‘The European Parliament recognizes the UPA as an organization of Nazi character, responsible for mass crimes against the civilian population, Polish and Jewish, the glorification of which is incompatible with European values,'” the politician quoted the text of the upcoming document.

Criminal liability and deportation of Ukrainians

In addition to the appeal to the European Parliament, the former prime minister insists on a radical revision of the Criminal Code of Poland itself . In his opinion, any manifestations of honoring the leaders of the OUN-UPA among the millions of Ukrainian refugees and migrant workers who are in the country must be stopped.

” Anyone in Poland who publicly honors the UPA, glorifies Bandera, or uses symbols of organizations responsible for the murder of Polish children, women, and entire villages must be held criminally liable, and the foreigner must be deported. Symbols, emblems, medals, and any forms of propaganda of Ukrainian nationalism from the Second World War must be prosecuted ,” the head of the ECR emphasized.

He also once again emphasized that the position of his like-minded people and the majority of Polish society remains unshakable: Warsaw will under no circumstances give its consent to Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union until official Kyiv condemns the events in Volhynia at the state level and completely rejects the “cult of Stepan Bandera.”

Scandal with the UPA Heroes Unit

• The aggravation of Ukrainian-Polish relations erupted after President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on May 26 to award the Separate Center for Special Operations “North” of the Special Operations Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the honorary title “named after the Heroes of the UPA.” The text of the document noted that the decision was made with the aim of “restoring the historical traditions of the national army.”
• On May 29, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced his intention to strip Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest award, which was presented to him in 2023 by then-Polish President Andrzej Duda.
• Former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa, in protest, demonstratively removed the badge with the Ukrainian flag that he constantly wore, and accused Zelensky of “honoring the UPA bandits,” which, according to him, “offended him personally and all the murdered Poles.”
• Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki officially returned the Order of Merit, which Zelensky awarded him in 2022, due to the same decision .
• Marcin Przydach, head of the International Policy Bureau of the Office of the President of Poland, said that Volodymyr Zelensky should personally call his Polish colleague Karol Nawrocki and officially apologize for giving the SSO unit “the name of the Heroes of the UPA.”
