Europe is “ready and willing” to take the initiative in providing security guarantees to Ukraine, Rutte says

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said after an “emergency summit” in Paris on February 17 that Europe was “ready and willing” to take the initiative in providing security guarantees to Ukraine. However, he did not announce any specific decisions.

Rutte wrote about this on his social network account X. On Monday, a summit of European Union leaders was held in Paris at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, attended by Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark.

European politicians gathered to discuss the war in Ukraine and the United States’ initiatives to end it.

Following a meeting with leaders of a number of European states, the NATO Secretary General noted that “Europe is ready and willing to strengthen itself, to take the initiative to provide security guarantees to Ukraine.”

Rutte emphasized that this is his “view of the current meeting in Paris.”

“Europe is ready and willing to step up. This is my view of today’s meeting in Paris. To lead in ensuring Ukraine’s security guarantees. Ready and willing to invest much more in our security,” the message said.

In addition, Rutte spoke about the need to further determine the details, but added that “the commitments are clear.”

  1. “the commitments are clear.”

Well, that’s fine and dandy. But, like always, the devil is in the details. Knowing Europe, a lot of (valuable) time can go by before the first concrete measures are agreed on and even more time can go by before any results can be felt. Of course, I hope that I’m wrong with this. If the orange crook in the WH hasn’t finally opened their eyes to reality by now, only a direct invasion by the cockroach hoard can. And then it’ll be game over.

  2. I consider all this as bull. To give up whatever our current advantages and the coming demise of the orcs economy is not only dangerous it’s downright stupid. This war will never end with a so called peace deal.
