Diplomats from several European countries have stated that even in the case of a temporary ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, the EU will continue supplying Ukraine with weapons
This was reported by DW, citing statements from diplomats of several EU countries shortly before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
According to several diplomatic representatives, the EU and its member states should not stop supplying weapons to Kyiv, even if this becomes one of Moscow’s conditions. They emphasized that Ukraine should be armed during a potential ceasefire.
“The European Union aims to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position at the peace negotiations and can also reject a ‘bad’ deal— as Trump would call it— and choose the most favorable moment for talks,” one diplomat noted.
Another added that while the fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues, if a pause occurs, Ukraine must be turned into a “steel porcupine.”
“The idea is that, while in a strong position, Ukraine should enhance its defense capabilities and be able to continue deterrence in case hostilities resume,” one of the diplomats stated.
- On March 11, the Ukrainian and American delegations met in Jeddah, where Kyiv agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, and the United States agreed to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance.
- Vladimir Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, stated that the 30-day ceasefire agreement is merely “a temporary respite for Ukrainian forces.”
- Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin stated that Russia agrees with the proposal to cease hostilities in Ukraine but emphasized that “this must lead to a long-term peace.”
- During a meeting with NATO’s Mark Rutte, Trump called Putin’s 30-day ceasefire proposal promising but said it lacked key details.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is preparing to reject the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.
And there is nothing that either putler nor trump can do anything about it.
As slow and cowardly as Europe can be, they have realized the importance to help Ukraine retain its independence. Without Ukraine, European countries will fall like domino blocks.

Stop bullshitting about “peacekeepers”; it’s never going to happen. Just send combat troops, with air support and keep them coming. We will show you where you can be deployed. We will do the fighting, you can stay behind and protect our cities.

I wish I knew the true strategy that Europe has come up with about the further course of this war. I’m sure that what we’re being fed and what is the truth might not coincide.
Starmer and Macron have committed to troops; but only in the form of “peacekeepers.” Which assumes that the war will end; which seems somewhat unlikely at the moment.
What they need to do this weekend is drop the “peacekeepers” bullshit and commit fully to sending combat troops. Ten divisions of mechanized infantry for the time being.
If they get there arses into gear, the troops will be fully operational by mid-June.
I’m afraid that everyone is still too afraid for anything more than just peacekeepers, and this only AFTER the war. Europe still doesn’t have the right kind of leaders in place. Merz? We’ll have to wait and see, but I have my doubts.

Of course that’s not as bad as the U.S. , which seems currently to have 50%.
Merz, the SPD and Greens used a (legal) trick to get the huge budget passed in a vote yesterday, assuring plenty of money for Germany’s defense and aid to Ukraine for the coming years. No other party/ies can ever change that until the next elections, if they should get a (an unlikely) majority.
