EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova described a “night of horror” spent hiding on a hotel bathroom floor during Russia’s massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight into Oct. 22.

“Night of horror in Ukraine. Russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv and its surroundings. It was terrifying. Incredibly loud night,” Mathernova wrote on Facebook. “Their targets were energy infrastructure, railways, residential buildings — and people. Sleeping women and children.”

Sirens wailed nonstop and explosions shook the walls, forcing her instructor to cancel a morning Pilates class.

“And I kept thinking only one thing: Enough. Enough of this war. It has lasted too long and drained too much,” she wrote. “Every day brings new victims. Every night — new attacks. Ukraine resists, but it is weary and wounded.”

Mathernova also praised Ukrainians’ courage after nearly four years of fighting and said the EU remains a steadfast ally, with Brussels seeking every way to help Ukraine endure and secure a just, lasting peace.

Russian forces launched a massive assault on Ukraine overnight into Oct. 22, striking the city of Kyiv, and Poltava, Zaporizhzhya, Odesa, Cherkasy and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

Explosions rocked Kyiv overnight and early on Oct. 22 as Russia hit the capital with missiles and drones. Authorities reported impacts in at least three districts, including high-rises in the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts and a three-story residential building in the Pechersk neighborhood.

Two people died and 21 others were injured in Kyiv, including five children. Four children and five adults were hospitalized, among the wounded a 2-year-old child.

Emergency power outages were imposed on Oct. 22 in the city of Kyiv, and Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Poltava and Sumy oblasts due to the Russian hit on the power grid. The worst electricity shortages are in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts.

  1. Meanwhile TACO is bleating about both sides killing. Not once has he condemned deliberate attacks on civilians by the scum.

    • Because taco carefully avoids condemning his beloved dictator vampire and would never raise a paw to harm it. Indirect condemnation is the farthest that spineless coward will go.

      • There is so much could tell witless and TACO about mafia land. Like the russian fable about protecting Russian speakers, then murdering them in Kharkiv, but it would be a pointless exercise.

No, the EU/NATO is NOT seeking every way to help Ukraine. I think we all know well enough in which ways that Ukraine could be helped more.
