EU approves $3.6 billion in Ukraine aid

August 8, 2025

The European Council has approved providing Ukraine with EUR3.05 billion ($3.55 billion) in financial aid under the Ukraine Facility program, Ukrainian PM Yulia Svyrydenko announced on Aug. 8.

She described the decision as a “powerful signal of trust in our reform course and our ability to maintain stability in challenging times.”

Svyrydenko also thanked Denmark, which currently chairs the Council, for its support.

“Every decision like this brings us closer to a strong Ukraine in a united Europe,” she added.

The European Council’s website indicates that Ukraine will receive more than EUR3.2 billion. The funding is aimed primarily at strengthening Ukraine’s macro-financial stability and supporting the functioning of its state administration.

On July 25, a European Commission official, Guillaume Mercier, said Ukraine had not passed all the required reforms for the full fourth tranche of funding under the Ukraine Facility program, implementing only 13 of the 16 necessary steps.

Under the terms of the program, Ukraine was expected to meet 16 key indicators by the end of March 2025. The three remaining incomplete reforms—administrative decentralization, updating legislation concerning its Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), and reforming the procedure for selecting judges for the High Anti-Corruption Court—could jeopardize up to EUR1.5 billion ($1.7 billion) in EU funding.

The Ukraine Facility is designed to provide Ukraine with EUR50 billion ($58 billion) in financial assistance from the EU in 2024–2027.

  1. Great news. Ukraine are kept alive by allies, while mafia land just had a budget deficit of $15 billion in a month.

    • Yes, and Ukraine should keep up the pressure with its attacks on the mafia oil facilities to increase the deficit even more.
