Musk proposed naming the English Channel after the US President.
American billionaire and close associate of US President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, has proposed renaming the English Channel, which separates England and France.
In a post on social media, X Musk suggested naming the strait after George Washington, the first president of the United States. He also published a map of the English Channel with a new name: “George Washington Channel.”
“A new name for the strait separating England and France,” Musk captioned the map.
The English Channel or La Manche is a strait between the coast of France and the island of Great Britain. Together with the Strait of Pas-de-Calais, it connects the North Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. The word La Manche was borrowed from the French name for the strait – la Manche (from French – “narrow strait, sleeve”), which has been used since at least the 17th century.
Earlier, the US officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America . Also, the highest mountain in North America, Denali, was renamed McKinley (in honor of the Republican and 25th President of the United States).
