Soldiers of the 225th separate assault battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with HIMARS struck a concentration of Russian army personnel in the Kursk region. “Bavovna” using cluster munitions neutralized the enemy, who was harassing the defenders with their assaults.
Feigning retreat, Ukrainian troops lured the attacking Russians into a devastating ambush, writes the American publication Forbes . A video of the strikes was published a few days ago on the official social networks of the 225th OSHB.
The defenders noted that Russian troops had been trying to storm this section of the front in Kursk for several days in a row. But thanks to the efforts of the battalion headquarters, an operation was developed that provided for creating conditions for inflicting fire damage and clearing this sector.
“The key point was the precise timing of each stage of the action. When the enemy, believing in his “success”, pulled significant forces into this square, they were targeted with cluster munitions from HIMARS. The strike destroyed a significant part of the enemy’s manpower, and our groups returned to complete the clearing of the territory,” the 225th battalion said in a statement.
They added that it is not often that they can reveal the details of such operations, but this time they managed to show how coordination, tactics, and modern weapons work in the hands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For its part, Forbes writes that Ukrainian soldiers carried out a cunning operation near the village of Sverdlikovo in the Sduzhansky district in western Russia. They used an M30/31 missile (a high-precision rocket of the GMLRS family with cluster warheads) to defeat Russian forces.
“As the overconfident Russians charged forward into the treeline, likely believing they were finally about to take control of the contested village, a Ukrainian missile launcher took aim. The strike on the enemy was observed by a Ukrainian drone, which recorded the M30/31 missile scattering dozens of grenade-sized projectiles along the treeline,” analysts commented.
They stressed that the ambush, which was the result of careful coordination between the battalion headquarters and its forward companies and the adjacent artillery brigade, helps explain why Russian and North Korean casualties have been so high over the past three months. Particularly after the 60,000-strong Russian army in the Kursk region redoubled its efforts to expel 20,000 Ukrainian troops from an area of about 647 sq km – a salient that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have occupied near Kursk since August 2024.
As OBOZ.UA reported, at the end of last year, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a HIMARS strike on a Russian headquarters in the occupied part of Zaporizhia region. At that moment, the invaders were holding a meeting, and three Russian officers were killed in the attack.
