Eidman: Ukraine will walk away after reviewing Russia’s demands

Ukrainian participation in the next round of negotiations with Russia, expected in Istanbul on June 2, is little more than a forced performance, said political analyst and sociologist Ihor Eidman in an interview with Radio NV.

“Ukraine stands to gain nothing from this,” Eidman said. “It’s obvious. But Ukraine has to participate in this theatrical performance. Why? So that Russia can’t present the situation to the Americans—especially [U.S. President Donald] Trump—as if Ukraine is unwilling to negotiate.”

Eidman predicted that Ukraine will not remain in the talks for long.

“Ukraine has already submitted its memorandum. Russia will submit its own, and nobody doubts it’ll be full of ultimatums—effectively a demand for Ukraine’s capitulation,” he said.

“I think the next step will be that Ukraine says, ‘We’ve reviewed this memorandum, and on all points, the answer is no.’ Basically: ‘Thanks, goodbye,’ like that old meme.”

Eidman noted that aside from technical issues—such as the May 16 Istanbul-mediated prisoner exchange—these talks offer little of substance.

“Yes, the prisoner swap was important,” he said. “And maybe it was bigger than usual because Russia needed to show the Americans some gesture of de-escalation. But prisoner exchanges have been happening even without these negotiations.”

He added that Russia will only agree to actions that don’t obstruct its military goals.

“Their plan is to achieve significant gains on the battlefield this summer or early fall,” Eidman said. “Then Putin will graciously agree to meet with Trump and launch peace talks.”

“They want to approach negotiations from a position of strength—as if Putin is coming in as the victor. I’m confident this plan will fail, but clearly, they’re still trying to make it work.”

  1. I hope Ukraine sent diplomats equal to the russian scum this time. Maybe a couple of the cleaners and cooks from the Rada, backed up by a few mean looking Azov fighters. No disrespect intended to cleaners and cooks, but pigs can’t communicate with orcs.

The putinaZi plan MUST be made to fail; disastrously.
But Ukraine is in the lousy position of having to rely on friends that are way less than 100% reliable.
putler has the norks, the chicoms, iran and other nazi shitholes on its side. Unfortunately putinaZi friends actually are reliable, Ukraine’s friends just aren’t.

  3. This entire peace deal effort is a complete waste of time. The mafia army must get annihilated, and nothing less.
