Former Prime Minister of Ukraine under Viktor Yanukovych, Mykola Azarov, was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This was reported by the Russian service of the BBC and Meduza , Censor.NET reports .
Azarov ran for the Department of Earth Sciences, majoring in “mining sciences.” He is a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences in Russia.
According to the T-Invariant media outlet, founded by scientists who left the Russian Federation, Azarov’s candidacy was supported by 527 academics (14 opposed, 15 abstained).
The publication calls the election of the former Prime Minister of Ukraine a precedent, as it is the first time that a person with a Ghersha coefficient of zero, a key indicator of a scientist’s influence based on the number of publications and their citations, has become an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Previously, T-Invariant wrote that Azarov has no scientific publications at all, and there is no information about him in the Scopus database, which tracks the citation rate of scientific articles.
On May 29, T-invariant reported that two corresponding members, Olena Berezovich and Fedor Uspensky, were not approved as academicians because they had signed a letter against the Russian invasion of Ukraine three years ago. Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n3555316
