It is noted that the airports of Sochi, Kazan, Astrakhan and Volgograd have suspended operations. Rosaviatsia stated that the restrictions were introduced “to ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights.” Local Telegram channels wrote that the “Carpet” plan was introduced due to the threat of drone strikes.

In addition, Russian media reported in the morning that restrictions on the operation of the airports of Astrakhan and Volgograd had allegedly already been lifted.

In addition, following the Embraer crash in Kazakhstan, two foreign airlines cancelled flights to Russia.

Another Russian  Telegram channel shared that the Kazakh airline QAZAQ AIR has suspended flights on the Astana-Yekaterinburg route. The company noted that the decision was made to ensure safety. Russian media emphasized that flights on this route have been cancelled from December 28 to January 27, 2025.

“The suspension of flights was carried out to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members based on the results of an ongoing risk assessment of flights to Russia,” says a press release from QAZAQ AIR.

It is interesting that flights to Omsk and Novosibirsk remain on the airline’s schedule. Passengers were promised a refund for the cancelled flights.

The Israeli airline El Al also announced the suspension of flights from Tel Aviv to Moscow. The company’s press service said that the decision would be in effect for a week. After that, specialists will assess the situation and decide whether it is safe to resume flights.

Another Russian Telegram channel reported that an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Mineralnye Vody was forced to return to its departure airport due to the closure of airspace over Makhachkala.
