On Sunday, November 2, it became known that Ukraine attacked the Saratov oil refinery (Russia). Air defenses could be heard there, and later the Russians “admired” the fire.
Russian social media outlets published videos and photos of the attack. They also wrote that Saratov airport was temporarily closed to flights. In addition, the “Cavior” plan was implemented in the neighboring Penza region.
“Powerful explosions in the sky began to sound around nightfall, and with varying frequency they continue to this day. The sounds of UAVs flying overhead and cotton are also heard by residents of the Balakovo and Kalinin districts of the region,” local media outlets report.
After conducting an OSINT analysis of the footage, ASTRA confirmed that the Saratov Refinery was hit.
“Judging by the footage, the installation is covered with a net. It is worth noting that the video already shows a source of fire in the western part of the plant, possibly next to the tanks,” says OSINT analyst ASTRA.
His conclusions coincided with the results of the Dnipro Osint project study : they believe that the fire broke out in the area of the AVT-6 installation and stated that the anti-drone net prevented another drone from hitting the pentane-hexane fraction isomerization installation.
ASTRA reminded that the Saratov Oil Refinery is one of the oldest oil refineries in Russia. As of 2023, the volume of oil processing was 4.8 million tons. Before this night, the last flight through it was on October 16 of this year.
In addition, an attack on Engels (Saratov region) was reported at night. Details of the “boys” are being clarified.
What preceded
The last time suicide drones massively attacked the Saratov region of the Russian Federation was on the night of October 16. The targets were in the regional center, as well as in Engels, where a strategic aviation airbase is located. Throughout the night, local residents complained of numerous explosions.
Recall that on the night of November 2, the Security Service and the Defense Forces of Ukraine attacked an oil terminal in Tuapse, Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation, with drones. In addition to the terminal, this port is home to an oil refinery, both facilities belonging to Rosneft.
Five drone hits were recorded. The attack caused a tanker to catch fire, and damage was also caused to port buildings and four oil tankers.
