On the night of Saturday, December 13, there was a complaint in Saratov, Russia about a drone attack. According to the Russians, they attacked a local refinery, causing a fire there.
Local authorities announced an “attack on civilian infrastructure” and a death. Footage from Saratov was collected by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
What is known
The first reports that Saratov was preparing to meet unknown, benevolent drones appeared at the end of last day : at about 10:50 p.m., the region announced a “danger of UAVs,” and the local airport launched the “Carpet Plan” (the restrictions were lifted only at about 5 a.m. Kyiv time).
Soon enough, explosions began to be heard in the regional center, which, according to local media, “evolved” from “loud” to “deafening bangs.”
The Russians claimed that there were “at least ten of them.”
According to Exilenova+, the Saratov Oil Refinery came under attack. Russian air defenses tried to shoot down UAVs flying towards the plant, but, judging by the glow that appeared in the area of its location, they were not very successful.
“Locals say there were flights and firefighters are on their way to the plant,” Exilenova+ noted, later pointing to the smoke that enveloped the area of impact.
The author of one of the videos described what was happening in Saratov with the words: “The sky just turned red – that’s all.”
The Saratov refinery, which was allegedly attacked last night, only recently resumed operations after repairs necessitated by previous attacks,
Exilenova+ noted.
At around 2 a.m. Kyiv time, the attack and its effectiveness were confirmed by the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin.
“In Saratov, there is damage to civilian infrastructure. There is a death,” the official wrote.
And Exilenova+ clarified: he called the oil refinery, which supplies fuel, in particular, to the Russian occupation army, “civilian infrastructure.”
“Saratov Oil Refinery” is one of the oldest Russian oil refining enterprises. It is part of the structure of the Russian giant “Rosneft”.
The volume of oil refining as of 2020 is 7.2 million tons, in 2023 – 4.8 million tons.
The enterprise produces over 20 types of products : unleaded gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil of all major brands, bitumen, vacuum gas oil, and technical sulfur.
The plant is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.
The Saratov Oil Refinery has been the object of interest of the Defense Forces on several occasions. This year alone, as of tonight, it has been attacked at least eight times.
Thus, on August 10, 2025, as a result of a drone attack, the technical structures of the “ELOU-AVT-6” installation, as well as the pipeline connecting the plant’s installations, suffered significant damage.
The following attacks took place on September 16 and 20, October 16, November 3, 11, 14, and 28.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that the day before, it became known that SBU drones had repeatedly struck Russian oil production platforms in the Caspian Sea.
It also became known that an explosion occurred in Orsk, Russia. A fire was reported at a strategic plant.
