Let’s invest in Ukraine; it will soon become a new emerging market.

Donbas is a $10T asset that Ukraine cannot afford to lose to Putin. Is there an alternative? If the US helps Ukraine, it can make trillions of dollars….
President #Zelenskyy has a series of difficult tasks: ending the war with an exhausted army and limited resources, avoiding the loss of more territories, and resisting being forced to concede Ukraine’s occupied land to the Russians during peace negotiations. Everyone understands that the White House is the key to the end of the war.
The Ukrainian side should speak to the #Trump team as businesspeople speak at a negotiation table. Who is Trump? First, he is a businessman, and second, he is a politician. Kyiv needs to give him a deal he simply cannot refuse. For example, if we lose the #Donbas, we will lose around $10T of natural resources and access to the sea, through which we can export Ukraine’s goods and extracted resources.
If offered, the Trump administration might consider the natural resources of the Donbas region in return for providing all the weapons Ukraine requires and helping to liberate the the occupied territories. Ukraine will benefit from US companies setting up billion-dollar mining enterprises and creating jobs for the people in the region. The US will make trillions over the next decade and the deal would make Trump a winner. Moreover, the Donbas can flourish under Western influence, benefitting Ukraine and the US simultaneously. Ukrainians would rather give away trillions to its Western partners and develop the area rather than lose it to the terrorists.

Andrew Pryma, MBA,, so if the Ukraine can switch the focus firmly onto money (and away from lives, safety, freedom & independence) our new President will continue our aid. Sounds about right. Why don’t they just promise the Trump Organization the exclusive right to build replacement housing in all the demolished cities?
(By the way, that is NOT sarcasm. In all probability, both Zelenskyy and Putin are considering it.

Neil A. Davidoff Agree, I think Ukrainians will agree to that. As long as Ukraine keeps its territory and protects its identity. The US can fully develop this region without any corruption from the Ukrainian side. Both sides, Ukraine and the US, will benefit from that.

Not only is this a ‘no brainer’ its the right thing to do. Send Putin home with nothing….he’s stolen enough from his own countrymen.

Unfortunately, I think you have hit upon the key motivation in the Russian imposed War. Not specifically the Don Basin, but also Crimea.
These two resource prizes are a huge asset to whichever nation controls them. For Ukraine, what we are discussing is mortgaging their future.
For russia, what we are discussing is simply a matter of the greed of oligarchs, as Russia has many other resources, but perhaps none so convenient.

Wishful thinking and conjecture at best. Putin will not cede anything…any such “deals” would be in the future not with Putin and the leftover Siloviks and Ze would also be long gone by then. Also Trump never wrote “Art of the Deal” and considers the invasion of Ukraine an inconvenience at best, and a thorn in his side at worst. And then there’s that small issue of Trumps admiration (or kompromatized status) of Putin the war criminal. The only saving grace is that appointees still awaiting confirmation…NSC Advisor Waltz, “special envoy” Kellogg and Sec State Rubio are Russia and Putin hawks and realists. Also are the people of Ukraine willing to give more of their blood and treasure to take back devastated and heavily mined Donbas? Perhaps a referendum on the issue. Ukraine is also suffering from a manpower and morale issue and has been ever since Zelenskiy made the frankly stupid and ill fated decision to fire Zaluzhny and exile him to the UK. Its time to stop putting lipstick on the proverbial свиня and wishful thinking that changes from month to month and is subservient to the whims of American and EU politics and take a longer term strategy that is sustainable. As one old proverb says:
“Do not ask for what you cannot take”.
Edmund Bell-King
Ukrainian troops should not be expected to fight for their land to then see it handed over to the corporate vultures like Blackrock et al in a sweetheart ‘peace deal’ just to keep American business interests happy. It’s about time the European nations (honourable exceptions being the UK, Baltics and Poland) grew a pair and stepped up to give a security guarantee to Ukraine via EU membership.

FLASHBACK:
Just over 4 weeks ago, on the eve of the election, Andrew wrote these words.
What should Ukraine expect from the US elections? Nothing… Let’s stop expecting anything! If Ukraine is a weak state, this is only our fault!
The US election we have been waiting for has finally arrived. In the next 24 hours, we will receive the first results from the polls and perhaps learn who the next US president will be. Will that president’s legacy be helping to end the war in Ukraine or selling our country for a song? Unfortunately, our future hinges on this question.
What should Ukraine expect? #Democrats support Ukraine but their assistance has been sluggish to arrive, long after it was promised. Ukraine has been bleeding to death, waiting for crucial aid to be approved and then delivered. Should we expect much from #Kamala? We don’t think so, because she will continue #Biden’s policies. How about the #Republicans? #Trump’s presidential campaign has not promised much support, and he scares Ukrainians more than Kamala Harris.
A typical American might ask, “Why must we care for and help you?” And they would be 100% correct to ask that question.
In answer to that question, what can Ukrainians say? It is simple. Nothing. As a nation, we failed to build a strong country with a strong army equipped with advanced weapons despite having a great foundation to do just that. Over the last decade, what has been done to build our defensive capabilities since the #CrimeanAnnexation? Again, nothing. Over the last two decades, none of our politicians have been interested in building a strong nation. With the billions of dollars they stole from Ukraine, they sit in lavish mansions in the South of France and write books about building a new, prosperous Ukraine.
The US and its new president are not obligated to do anything for Ukraine. This is our problem, and it is nobody else’s fault that we, the largest country in the EU with the largest deposits of minerals, gas, oil, sea access, and a fantastic location, are one of the weakest countries in the world.
