President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a law on the demobilization of conscripts.
As indicated on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, law No. 11035 “On amendments to Chapter XII “Final Provisions” of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service” regarding the terms of compulsory military service” was returned with the signature of the president on February 26.
Demobilization of conscripts in Ukraine
As UNIAN reported, in November, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexey Danilov said that Ukrainian conscripts who have completed their service period will be demobilized . He noted that this is fair. And he added that conscripts whose service life has ended, but have a desire to remain in the army, will be able to do this on a contract basis.
On February 22, Zelensky introduced a bill on the demobilization of conscripts to the Verkhovna Rada . The explanatory note stated that the development of the bill was due to the need to ensure the transfer to the reserve of military personnel who have served the established terms of military service. The draft law proposed to normalize, during martial law in Ukraine, the possibility of transferring into the reserve military personnel who have served the established periods of compulsory military service, which will allow military personnel who have served the established periods of compulsory military service to be transferred to the reserve in 2024.
On February 23, the Committee on National Security and Defense supported the bill on the demobilization of conscripts in Ukraine. “Based on the results of the discussion, the Committee decided to recommend to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to include bills in the agenda of the 11th session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Based on the results of consideration of the bill (No. 11035) in the first reading, accept it as a basis and in general,” the text of the committee’s decision said .
At the same time, the Committee proposed to take into account the proposal regarding the time period during which conscripts cannot be called up.
On the same day, the Verkhovna Rada supported the bill on demobilization of conscripts . 319 people’s deputies voted “for”.

Zelensky signed the demobilization law while the mobilization bill still isn’t ready for a vote? I do find this confusing and not inspiring trust in the political process. 😕
