Danish military in Greenland ordered to be ready for combat with US army, media reports

Danish Armed Forces troops stationed in Greenland have been ordered to be ready to engage US forces in the event of an attack on the island.

According to the order received by the military, the Danish Armed Forces must strengthen their capabilities to implement the Greenland defense plan as soon as possible. The publication notes that over the past week, soldiers, weapons and other military cargo have been systematically transported to the region by both military and civilian aircraft.

The Danish government, according to DR, had the political will to enter the fray in the event of American aggression, and this decision received full support from opposition parties. At the same time, Copenhagen officially did not consider a US attack likely, despite President Donald Trump’s aggressive rhetoric.

Arctic Endurance Training

The increased military presence is part of the Arctic Endurance exercises, which were planned in advance, but the events surrounding Greenland have significantly accelerated their implementation. The Danish army has been tasked with increasing its presence on the island to demonstrate its readiness to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The orders received by the military include the activation of a plan to defend Greenland in the event of an attack. In particular, the military has received ammunition , indicating a readiness to immediately enter combat if necessary.

The Danish Ministry of Defense declined to comment on the content of the orders, but confirmed that there are “significant forces” of the Danish army on the island, and the Arctic Endurance exercises will continue until the end of 2026.

US plans for Greenland
