In the Chernobyl exclusion zone, they are still putting out a fire after a Russian drone struck the sarcophagus of the destroyed 4th power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant . 

“The fire on the outer skin of the NSC (New Safe Confinement) arch is still being extinguished. 11 units of equipment and 49 employees of the State Emergency Service have been brought in. The radiation background in the exclusion zone is normal and is being monitored continuously by an automated monitoring system at 39 points,” said Svetlana Grinchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, on the air of the telethon.

The ministry assured that the radiation situation is under control:

“No radioactive products have been detected outside the established limits. There are no threats to the population yet. All technological systems and systems important for safety are operating normally.”

The State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management reported that as of 13:30, “cells of smoldering anti-radiation membrane have been localized over an area of ​​60 m2, partial liquidation is ongoing over an area of ​​20 m2.”

“Considering the scale of the fire, the personnel of enterprises in the exclusion zone do not need additional radiation safety measures,” the department noted.
