In particular, the package of military aid will include other types of weapons.

Canada plans to transfer more than 2,000 surplus unarmed  CRV7 missiles to Ukraineand a list of other types of weapons. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the country, Bill Blair, writes Reuters .

“Canada will provide Ukraine with 2,300 Canadian CRV7 air-to-air missiles. These weapons were previously used by the Royal Canadian Air Force. Over the past few months, we have tested these missiles to make sure of their effectiveness,” he said before the meeting of defense ministers of NATO countries, quoted by “Interfax” -Ukraine” .

According to him, Canadian specialists have spent the last few months ensuring the operation of missiles that do not have warheads.

At the same time, Blair’s spokeswoman said that Canada plans to send some warheads to Ukraine, but did not provide details.

In addition, Canada will send 29 German-made remote-controlled weapons stations that can be mounted on various types of armored vehicles and 13,000 rounds of ammunition for small arms.

The publication reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Canada has transferred 10.2 billion dollars to Ukraine, including 4 billion Canadian dollars for military aid (1 US dollar = 1.37 Canadian dollars).

It is known that the CRV7 (Canadian Rocket Vehicle 7) missiles were decommissioned in the country in the early 2000s, so the government previously signed a contract for their gradual disposal. At the same time, more than 83,000 such missiles remain in the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense, some of which are already without warheads. This weapon is suitable for ground launchers and attack helicopters.

Aid to Ukraine from Canada – the latest news

As UNIAN wrote, at the end of April it became known that  Canada will transfer more than 2.3 million dollars to Ukraine for the production of drones . In addition, the country will additionally allocate 13 million Canadian dollars (about 10 million US dollars) to the Czech initiative for the production and procurement of artillery ammunition.

It was also reported in March that Canada had allocated $1.5 billion in financial aid to Ukraine . According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, this money will help the Ukrainian government to finance the deficit, in particular, social aid programs.

    • Good for putting an explosive head on it, like from a mortar grenade, as shown on the right side of the photo. 😉

      • Oh, and another idea: You can use them as boosters for other missiles or glide bombs, too. 🪛😎🔧

  1. Well, CRV-7 is actually a simple, unguided air-to-ground missile, and if I remember correctly, from last year’s news, Canada had about 80,000 of those. And now, after much consideration, they deliver 2000 of them? Color me unimpressed. 🙄

    • Oh, right, the article states it, “more than 83,000 such missiles remain in the warehouses”. And now Ukraine gets 2000 of them? D’oh. 🙄

    • It’s a Western country, Mr. Gray, so things are always less, and fewer, and take longer, and more slowly, and all of this only after countless and lengthy discussions.

  2. This possibility is interesting, too:
“The PG version, for “precision guided”, adds a seeker developed by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to the front of any version of an otherwise unmodified CRV7. The seeker uses a simple inertial guidance system through the midcourse, and homes during the terminal approach using a laser designator. Other versions offer anti-radiation seeking, or GPS guidance.”

Kongsberg, the Norwegian arms corporation? Would be great if they could make that happen.

Wow, really? You can build twice as many of those relatively simple types of rockets in half the time.
Oh well, some things will simply NEVER change.
