Can Russia Be Forgiven? What a Ukrainian Nurse Taught Me

A man wearing glasses speaks directly to the camera in a hospital setting, with a hospital bed visible in the background and sunlight streaming through the curtains.

I am lying in a hospital bed, recovering. For days, I have been surrounded by the absolute love and care of two Ukrainian hospital workers—a nurse and a nutrition specialist. They know I am Russian. They know the tension between our countries. But the empathy they showed me didn’t just break me—it amplified the heaviest question I carry: How do we fix Russia?

In this raw, unedited, spontaneous video, I share a deeply personal story of compassion from the people my country’s government is attacking. These women didn’t give me a geopolitical solution for Russia’s future. I know how Russia really works, its politics, economy, society, and propaganda system. But the question of who will fix the country, and how they will actually do it, remains painfully open. This is a story about the humanity that state-sponsored hatred cannot kill, and the massive moral challenge that lies ahead for all of us.
