How much time does Ukraine need to build ballistic missile? Expert reveals

3 May 2025

Aviation expert Hennadiy Khazan believes it would be a major achievement for Ukraine if its defense industry is able to develop and produce a ballistic missile within two years.

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

“In this life, the easiest thing to do is to deceive yourself. Ukraine will not be able to develop and produce a ballistic missile in a month or two. If we can create a ballistic missile in two years, it will be a great success. This timeframe includes development, testing, error correction, and adoption. That is, the whole process. This will not happen tomorrow or in the short term. However, there is another way. If we can get an already developed project, we can have a ballistic missile much faster. We are talking about projects that were developed but then closed. This will significantly speed up the process of developing Ukrainian ballistics,” Khazan explained.

The expert emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could receive a ballistic missile in six months if the tests are successful.

“We are waiting for the reports. Only after reports on the successful test of a ballistic missile at the test sites can we talk about the timing. If such tests are successful, the missile could be put into service in six months,” he added.

  1. I will take this article with a grain of salt. It’s a fact that Ukraine has lengthy and far-ranging experience in the aviation sector, including missiles. I doubt that the country will require two years to get a ballistic missile into service. Maybe this article is designed to throw off the roaches.
