They want to make this decision against the backdrop of Trump’s ban on providing intelligence information to Ukraine.
Britain is to form a Four Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance over US President Donald Trump’s actions towards Ukraine, defence sources have told the Daily Mail .

“The US president’s ‘unprecedented’ decision to bar allies, including Britain, from sharing US classified material with Ukraine that could benefit the Eastern European country has sparked calls for a group to break away from the alliance,” the report said.
Trump famously used his powers within the Five Eyes alliance – which includes the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand – to stop the sharing of intelligence with Ukraine. So some in the UK MoD are proposing a subgroup that would allow information sharing without a US ban.
“We are not talking about leaving the Five Eyes, but about creating a new Four Eyes group within it – without America,” the source explained.
At the same time, last week the Institute for the Study of War said that the US decision “will damage Ukraine’s ability to defend itself from sustained Russian attacks.”
British Ambassador to Washington David Manning said the issue of intelligence sharing would be “more difficult to resolve”.
“Obviously, if you have Trump loyalists in these key positions who have a very strange track record and have said very strange things about NATO allies and the NATO alliance, and you have people in the administration who seem to be looking for ways to appease Russia, then you have a problem on the intelligence front. That’s a big question mark about how to maintain the special relationship during the Trump administration,” he said.
In turn, the government representative added:
“We have deep and long-standing defense and intelligence relationships with the United States and continue to work closely with our Five Eyes partners.”
